Lucky escape following crash in grass fire – Kunwarara

Police have managed to rescue man and his dog in the nick of time before their minivan was engulfed by a grass fire burning at Kunwarara this morning.
Just before 11am officers were conducting patrols south of Marlborough when they spotted a large blaze burning at Grosvenor Park across Kunwarara Road.
As police directed traffic around the smoke they heard a loud crash within the haze after a minivan collided with the rear of a truck.
Both vehicles emerged from the smoke before the minivan lost control and veered off the road – just metres from where the fire burned out of control.
The minivan became stuck in the grass and officers moved quickly to help the 74-year-old male driver and his dog exit the vehicle.
Soon after the van was engulfed by the flames and completely destroyed.
