Police have charged a man with drink driving after he allegedly fled from officers into a cane paddock near Ayr on Saturday.
Around 1.45am police from Ayr Station intercepted a utility travelling on Giddy Road.
Police will allege the driver, when stopped by police, switched places with the male passenger in the vehicle.
The man allegedly refused to provide a sample of breath before fleeing into a nearby cane paddock.
When police attempted to detain him, he allegedly tackled a police officer and later kicked the officer in the chest whilst being placed into the police vehicle.
The driver was subsequently conveyed to the Ayr Police Station where she returned a blood alcohol concentrate reading of 0.183 per cent.
The officer sustained no physical injuries from the assault.
