Attempted murder charge, Babinda

A man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly tried to attack an officer at Babinda Police Station in the state’s far north this evening.
It will be alleged at around 5.45pm a man presented at the station, and as a side door was opened he lunged at an officer with a knife, making threats.
The 36-year-old male Constable managed to disarm the man who allegedly continued to lash out violently, attempting to push the officer from a balcony.
Another police officer quickly assisted and both managed to subdue the man and take him into custody.
A 19-year-old Babinda man has been charged with attempted murder, serious assault police, going armed so as to cause fear, obstruct police and wilful damage of police property.
He is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow.
The male officer was not seriously injured as a result of the incident.
