When is the last time 40,000 people agreed to wake up early for a gruelling physical challenge? Sunday, 13 September 2026, marks the 30th anniversary of the Transurban Bridge to Brisbane presented by Brooks. Organisers are bracing for record-breaking crowds after 30,000 eager entrants snapped up registrations over a month in advance.

Since 1997, more than 700,000 people have crossed the finish line to raise upwards of $14 million for various causes. This year, the milestone run falls under the guidance of Events Management Queensland (EMQ). The group already directs a portfolio of massive gatherings that inject roughly $120 million into the state economy annually.

The main event is not for the faint of heart. Participants tackling the 10-kilometre course face an immediate, steep one-kilometre climb straight over the iconic bridge from the Murarrie start line. Once they conquer the peak, gravity takes over.

The route sends the massive pack sweeping down through local streets, tracing along Kingsford Smith Drive, and winding through Bowen Hills. Exhausted but triumphant runners will finally spill into the Brisbane Showgrounds via Gate 5 on O’Connell Terrace.

Community Spirit in Every Step

Those preferring a flatter journey can opt for the five-kilometre track starting at Hamilton’s Hercules Park. This shorter path tracks along Kingsford Smith Drive before merging with the main crowd in Bowen Hills and finishing at the showgrounds.

EMQ Chief Executive Ben Mannion noted that the massive early entry numbers reflect a deep-rooted excitement across the state. He explained that his team is focused on protecting the unique community vibe that has made the event so beloved over the past three decades. Whether chasing a personal best or simply walking with family to support a charity, participants are proving that this historic run brings Queenslanders together like nothing else.
