Road safety report: Phase 2 – Day 1 – with statistics

Phase 2 of the Christmas Road Safety Campaign commenced yesterday with more than 3,100 speeding motorists fined across Queensland on day one.
The state’s most high-risk speeding motorist on day one was captured on a speed camera allegedly a ‘P’ plate driver travelling at 157 km/hour in a 100km/hour zone on Leichardt Motorway at The Gums.
The driver will receive an infringement with a penalty of $1,218 and eight demerit points.
Police conducted over 5,100 RBTs (Random Breath Tests) with 43 drivers charged with drink driving.
The worst reading across the state was a 36-year-old Newtown man who was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after allegedly returning a Breath Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.201 per cent on Walsh Street at Newtown yesterday.
Officers also conducted 152 RDTs (Roadside Drug Tests) with 43 drivers returning a positive test.
