Road safety report: Phase 2 – Day 4 – with statistics

Day four has had 4873 speeding motorists fined on Queensland roads and 14 drivers fined for using a mobile phone.
The highest speed for the day was detected by mobile radar on Fairbairn Dam Road in Gindie (south of Emerald).  A 17-year-old Emerald man on a provisional licence has been issued a traffic infringement notice for allegedly travelling 142 in a 100 zone and fined $1218, eight points and a 6-month suspension.
Another provisional licence holder has been charged with driving under the influence of liquor after returning a Breath Alcohol Concentration of 0.225 per cent.  Police intercepted his utility on Wardirrkan Street on Mornington Island after phone calls from members of the public concerned about the manner of driving.  A 21-year-old man will appear at the Mornington Island Magistrates Court on January 15.
Police conducted 4921 RBTs (Random Breath Tests) with 45 drivers charged with drink driving including a 52-year-old Taringa man
