It’s not often that you find hidden treasure… much less when it’s found within an item of clothing.
You may have noticed police officers wearing epaulettes with varying emblems adorning the shoulders of their uniforms, signifying their rank.
Police recruits also have these epaulettes on their uniforms while they are training at the Academy.
Recently, a neatly-folded note was discovered in the Queensland Police Service Academy in North Queensland, carefully tucked away inside the folds of the fabric of an epaulette.
The page-long, handwritten note offers advice to the recruit for their time at the Academy and for their early days as police officers, with the notable takeaway, “It’s a long hard slog and there are many difficult times ahead for you.
“Don’t give up, it will be the most amazing experience of your life.”

Taskforce Maxima drug and weapon charges, Paradise Point
Detectives from South East Region’s Taskforce Maxima, State Crime Command, have charged a man linked to an outlaw motorcycle club (OMCG) with drug and weapon offences following the execution of a search warrant at Sunbird Avenue at Paradise Point this morning.
During a search of the residence police located two hand guns, a silencer, two knuckle dusters, $12,400 in cash and quantities of cocaine, MDMA and cannabis.
A 44-year-old man, an alleged associate of the Mongols OMCG, has been charged with 14 offences, including four counts of possession of dangerous drugs and one count each of: possession of things used in a crime, possession of proceeds of crime and unlawful possession of category H weapon (handguns), category R weapon (silencer), explosives, category M weapon (knuckle dusters and push knife), and restricted item (baton).
He has been remanded to appear at Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Queensland Police Service officers completed Operation Warlord last week executing 14 search warrants and charging nine people with a total of 26 drug related offences.
The operation was carried out on Thursday, August 6 and targeted several properties across the greater Cairns area.
As a result, police seized a quantity of methylamphetamine (ice), methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), cannabis, drug paraphernalia, a cross bow and a large sum of cash alleged to be the proceeds of drug trafficking.
Operation Warlord is a disruption strategy of the Cairns CIB targeting drug activity within the Greater Cairns area utilising information sourced by police.
This operation was a cooperative effort between the QPS and our partner agency, Australian Border Force (ABF).
Detective Inspector Jason Smith urged the community to report information about the production, supply and dealing of ice or illegal drugs and drug related activity.

OMCG arrest – Gold Coast
Yesterday, officers from Taskforce Maxima South East Region, Organised Crime Gangs Group, arrested and charged a 27-year-old Ashmore man and member of the Mongols OMCG following his attendance at a Windaroo barber shop on Saturday, 8 August 2020.
It is alleged the man breached conditional bail for offences including consorting after investigations determined he was associating with OMCG members on Saturday.
He is due to appear in Southport Magistrate Court today.
“Officers from Taskforce Maxima are committed to ensuring the safety of the community and will continue to monitor the activities of Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs to disrupt their criminal endeavours ”, Detective Senior Sergeant Troy Lehmann said.

Fatal motorcycle crash, Gympie
A 48-year-old man has died following a motorcycle crash at Coles Creek near Gympie overnight.
Around 11pm, police were advised the body of a motorcycle rider had been located between the two northbound lanes of the Bruce Highway, 200 metres south of the Mary Valley Link Road overpass.
Sadly, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police located a Suzuki SV1000S motorcycle on its side approximately 100 metres from the man.
Preliminary inquiries indicate the motorcyclist parked on the nearby off-ramp and had been standing while holding his helmet when struck by an unknown vehicle.
Officers are trying to gather a complete picture of the incident as part of investigations with further inquiries indicating a utility may have overtaken the motorcyclist and another vehicle at high speed prior to the incident.
Forensic Crash Unit investigators are appealing for any witnesses, particularly motorists travelling on the Bruce Highway around the Kybong area between 10pm and 11pm,
New Queensland border declaration passes online
A suite of new border declaration passes for those eligible to enter Queensland are available online.
The states of New South Wales (NSW) and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and Victoria are all declared COVID-19 hotspots.
Since 1am, Saturday, August 8, the Queensland border has been closed to anyone who has been in a COVID-19 hotspot in the last 14 days unless they receive an exemption.
Residents living in the declared ‘border zone’ will be able to apply for a new declaration border pass but will only be permitted to travel within the border zone in Queensland and New South Wales.
Only residents in postcodes depicted on this map are considered in the border zone and eligible for a Queensland Entry Declaration Pass.
Queensland residents who have been in a COVID-19 hotspot can return home via air but will be required to quarantine for 14 days in government arranged accommodation at their own expense.

Police disappointed after large crowd attends beach party, Far North Queensland
Police from Cairns and Port Douglas responded to complaints from the local community about a large party on Wangetti Beach yesterday morning (August 8) which drew a crowd of around 200 to 300 people.
On arrival officers located people illegally camping, vehicles parked illegally, alcohol being consumed on the beach, as well as a stage with a DJ playing loud music over a sound system.
Police dispersed the crowd and conducted enforcement actions which included random breath tests, consumption of liquor in a public place and being intoxicated in a public place.
A direction was issued under the Noise Abatement Act and the musical equipment unplugged.
A large section of the crowd became unruly and hostile towards police with additional resources necessary to retain control of the situation.
Acting Superintendent Mark Linwood, Far North District said police showed incredible patience and tolerance continuing to negotiate with the large crowd and give move-on directions. Officers also tipped out large quantities
Update: Serious traffic crash, Imbil
A man has died following a traffic crash at Imbil on August 6.
Around 7.45pm, a Toyota Camry travelling west on Yabba Creek Road left the road and collided with a light pole.
The 21-year-old male driver from Bollier was airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital where he passed away on August 7.
The 19-year-old male passenger from Pie Creek suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
Update: Pedestrian struck by vehicle, Wynnum
A man has died after being struck by a car in Wynnum on August 1.
Around 6.15pm, the 35-year-old Wynnum man was struck on Tingal Road.
He was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he passed away today (August 8).
The driver, a 48-year-old Brisbane woman was not physically injured.
Investigators from the Forensic Crash Unit continue to appeal for witnesses to contact police.
