Innisfail Police were patrolling around the Bentley Park area recently when they spotted a driver with a companion with the need for speed.

Officers intercepted the red utility after spotting a small lap dog sitting on his owner’s lap travelling along the Bruce Highway.
While the pup looked to be enjoying himself with the wind in his fur, officers were concerned for the pooch’s safety and the driver’s ability to travel safely with such an excitable distraction.
The driver, a 57-year-old Edmonton man was issued with a traffic infringement notice of $311 for driving with a person or animal in their lap.
Officers would like to remind all motorists that travelling with an unrestrained animal can incur a fine.

Update: Armed robbery charges, Rochedale

Police have charged two men in relation to the alleged armed robbery of a convenience store in Rochedale on Sunday (June 19).
It is alleged the pair entered a Belmore Drive store on Sunday afternoon, wearing masks and armed with a knife and a hammer.
The men obtained money and cigarettes before fleeing the store and leaving on push bikes.
Police executed a search warrant today (July 21) and charged the 18-year-old and 20-year-old Rochedale men with armed robbery.
Both men will appear before the Beenleigh Magistrates Court tomorrow (June 22).
Police would like to thank members of the community for their assistance in the matter.

Attempted armed robbery, Dalby

Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a business in Dalby this afternoon.
Around 3.05pm a teenage boy has entered a business on Patrick Street and made demands for money.
An employee has produced an empty cash box. The boy has grabbed it and thrown it to the ground before producing a pocket knife.
The boy has subsequently left the premises on foot and was last seen at Marks Lane.
No property was obtained, and the employee was not physically injured during the incident.
The boy is described as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance, being between 14 and 17-years-old and was wearing a black hoodie.
Investigations are continuing.

Revocation of stand down, Central Region

A male senior constable from Central Region, who was stood down from official duty with the Queensland Police Service, will now return to operational duties.
The officer was stood down in relation to allegations of weapons misuse, theft, misuse of authority and inappropriate workplace conduct. The discipline investigations in relation to this matter have now been finalised.
In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when an officer faces serious allegations of misconduct.
This does not mean that the allegations against the officer have been substantiated.

Armed robbery charges, Birkdale and Pialba

Two teenage girls have been charged in relation to the armed robbery of two convenience stores and an incident at Auchenflower yesterday where a man allegedly had his car stolen at knife-point.
It will be alleged at around 10pm on July 19 a man and a 16-year-old girl entered a business on Bailey Road in Birkdale and produced a knife, demanding money from the female console operator.
The employee complied and gave the pair a sum of cash from the till before they fled the scene.
It is further alleged that on July 20 at around 8.30pm a 16 and 17-year-old girl were being driven by a 19-year-old man to a location in Auchenflower when one of the girls produced a knife and demanded he exit the vehicle.
The victim complied and the girls allegedly drove away in the Mazda 6.
The stolen vehicle was then allegedly driven to a service station on the Bruce

NSW man found crossing border in boot

A New South Wales man has been fined after trying to enter Queensland in the boot of a vehicle at Wallangarra.
Officers intercepted the vehicle on Border Street around 6.45pm on Sunday night and while conducting a search, located the 41-year-old man hiding in the boot.
The man was fined $4,003 for attempting to enter Queensland without a Border Declaration Pass, in breach of the Queensland COVID-19 Border Direction.
Two women, aged 28 and 29, were also in the vehicle at the time. All three people were refused entry to Queensland.
Since 12pm on Friday 3 July 2020, anyone entering Queensland is required to complete a border declaration pass which is valid for seven days or until the person’s circumstances change (whichever is shorter).
The Queensland Police Service is committed to ensuring everyone complies with public health directions and will continue to enforce restrictions at the border.

Vale, Chief de Beers

Former racehorse and police horse Chief de Beers passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, weeks shy of his 29th birthday.
Affectionately known as ‘Chief’, he was a celebrated champion, particularly when racing at Doomben where he was victorious in 20 of 51 races, with 17 placings.

Upon his retirement from racing in 1999, Chief was donated by his owners and recruited into the Queensland Police Service (QPS) Mounted Police Unit.
With the strong instinct to lead the team from his racing days still well intact, Chief’s duties ranged from ceremonial escorts at the opening of the Royal Queensland Show, to operational patrols, and later as the Governor’s police horse.
His former handler, Acting Sergeant Belinda Worthington, said she had a great relationship with Chief.
“We just clicked – I loved riding him,” Acting Sergeant Worthington said.

Update – Dangerous drugs trafficking charges

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Drug and Serious Crime Group have laid additional charges against a 43-year-old man for the trafficking of dangerous drugs.
The man was initially charged with drug trafficking offences in September 2019 following the multi-agency investigation and seizure of 776 kilograms of MDMA powder by police as part of Operation Romeo Ratify, one of Queensland’s most significant drug seizures.
As part of ongoing investigations, detectives working as part of Operation Romeo Ratify yesterday laid additional charges against the man in relation to trafficking, possession and supply of an additional 400 kilograms of MDMA.
The man will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

PSPA declared, Bundaberg Central

Police have made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act due to a dangerous fire burning in Bundaberg Central.
The exclusion zone is bound by the Burnett River, Maryborough Street, Woongarra Street and Burrum Street (pictured below).
Residents within the exclusion zone are urged to follow the advice of emergency services on the ground.
Members of the public are advised to avoid the area.

Fatal traffic crash, Taroom

A man has died after a single vehicle traffic crash on the Leichardt Highway, 15-kilometres north of the township of Taroom, this afternoon (July 20).
Preliminary inquiries suggest just after 2pm the road-train the man was driving has left the carriageway for an unknown reason and rolled.
Sadly, the man died at the scene.
There remain some delays to the highway with diversions in place.
Forensic Crash Unit investigations are continuing.
