Cash seized, Eight Mile Plains

Police are investigating following the seizure of a significant amount of cash from a vehicle at Eight Mile Plains yesterday.
A station wagon was intercepted by police on the Pacific Motorway around 8.30am.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered $4.35 million in cash notes stacked inside a suitcase and a box.
The alleged driver of the vehicle, a 37-year-old Strathpine man, was charged with receiving tainted property and was due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning (July 8).
Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the funds.

Drugs seized, Yatala

Logan police have seized close to $1 million worth of cannabis after executing a search warrant at a residence in Yatala.
Around 9.30am on July 1, police searched a Ferguson Street residence where they allegedly found 369 cannabis plants growing in a shed and in the bush of the property.
A 59-year-old Yatala man has been charged with one count each of producing dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing things used in connection of a drug offence.
The drugs are believed to have an estimated street value of close to $920,000.
He is expected to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on September 16.

Fatal traffic crash, Glenore Grove

A man has died after a single vehicle traffic crash in Glenore this morning.
Preliminary enquiries indicate around 4.45am a black BMW sedan was travelling east on the Warrego Highway when it has left the road and crashed into a tree.
The driver died at the scene.
Officers from the Forensic Crash Unit are continuing investigations.

Update – Fatal traffic crash, Bundaberg

A 27-year-old Avenell Heights man has been charged with additional offences over a fatal traffic crash in Bundaberg last night.
The man briefly appeared in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court today charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and burglary.
He has also been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and driving without a licence.
All matters will be heard again in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Driver fights off deadly snake on highway

Imagine driving along a regional Queensland highway alone when you spot an angry brown snake slithering towards your leg.
With his heart-racing uncontrollably, 27-year-old Gladstone man ‘Jimmy’ experienced just that while driving at 100km/hour on the Dawson Highway west of Calliope around 5pm on June 15.
“I’m driving along at 100, and I just started to brake,” Jimmy said.
“…And the more I moved my legs… it just started to wrap around me. Its head just started striking at the (driver’s seat) chair, between my legs.”
Jimmy used a seat belt and a work knife he had in the ute to fight off the snake off while trying to stop the car.
Fearing he had already been bitten and his life was in danger, Jimmy believed he had no other option but to kill the snake and take it with him to hospital.

Wounding, Nambour

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 16-year-old boy sustained a stab wound in Nambour last night.
Preliminary information suggests the local boy was walking through a park on Matthew Street when he became involved in a physical altercation with another male around 6.40pm.
The boy sustained a stab wound to his back during the scuffle and it is believed the male person then fled the scene in a white car.
Police located the injured boy on Howard Street a short time later. He was transported to Nambour Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or been in the vicinity of the park between 6.40 and 7pm to come forward.

Fatal traffic crash, Bundaberg

Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating after a pedestrian died after been struck by a car this evening.
Preliminary inquiries indicate at 7.45pm a Toyota sedan was headed west on Bourbong Street when the vehicle has lost control near the intersection of Bingera Street. The vehicle has mounted the curb and struck a man walking on the footpath.
The pedestrian, a 63-year-old Sunshine Coast man, died at the scene.
The driver and sole occupant was arrested at the scene.
Further investigations indicate the vehicle was stolen from Avenell Heights earlier in the night.
A 27-year-old Avenell Heights man is assisting police with their inquiries.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or dashcam footage and CCTV is urged to come forward.

Serious domestic violence charges, Bundaberg

Detectives have today charged a Bundaberg man with more than 20 serious domestic violence related charges including assault, torture, rape and deprivation of liberty.
Police will allege the man assaulted and threatened two women who were known to him with the violence escalating over the last month.
It will be alleged the man punched one of the women in the head, kicked her in the stomach on another occasion and held her hostage, threatening her with a pistol.
Police will further allege the man hit the other woman in the face with a pistol on a number of occasions, punched her in the face and held her against her will.
Today police located the man around 4.30pm on Heidke Street where he was arrested.
A 30-year-old man Branyan man has been charged with nine counts of assault, five counts of deprivation of liberty, three counts each of assault occasioning bodily harm

Fatal traffic crash, Mungindi

A man has died in a single vehicle traffic crash at Mungindi this morning.
Preliminary inquiries indicate around 7.30am a utility was headed east on Noondoo Mungindi Road when the vehicle has left the road and hit a tree.
The driver, an 18-year-old local man and only occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene.
Police where called to the scene at 10.45am.
Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating.

Serious traffic incident, Gold Coast

Police are investigating a serious traffic incident on the Pacific Motorway (M1) in the Gold Coast this morning.
Preliminary investigations indicate around 11.45am, a 34-year-old man was travelling northbound in a vehicle that crashed through a side barrier on the M1, near the Tallebudgera Creek bridge overpass.
It is believed the man exited the vehicle and returned to the roadside, where he was struck by a truck.
The man sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident – or who may have dashcam vision – is urged to contact police.
