A man has been charged after a road policing officer’s motorcycle was struck by a ute at Belmont overnight.
Around 8.30pm, the officer was conducting traffic enforcement on the northbound lanes of the Gateway Motorway near Mount Gravatt Capalaba Road when he detected a ute allegedly travelling at speed towards the Old Cleveland Road exit.
The officer intercepted the vehicle near the Old Cleveland Road off-ramp.
As the officer approached the ute it will be alleged the driver reversed at speed for a distance, colliding with the front of the police motorcycle causing it to fall onto its side and sustain minor damage.
The ute was later located in Parkridge Avenue at Caboolture where the alleged driver, a 60-year-old man, was arrested without incident.
The 60-year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and serious assault of a police officer.
He is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on September

Fatal traffic crash, Pikes Creek
Police have commenced an investigation after a man died in a crash at Pikes Creek overnight.
Around 7.50pm, police and emergency services were notified in relation to a man located unresponsive on Waghorn Road.
Preliminary inquiries indicate the man had fallen from a quadbike.
A 63-year-old man was pronounced deceased.

Attempted robbery, Cairns
Police have charged a 41-year-old man in relation to the alleged attempted robbery of a service station at Cairns last night.
Around 10.50pm it will be alleged a man forced entry to the Florence Street business by kicking the glass doors.
Once inside it will be alleged the man demanded cash from the male attendant while armed with a crossbow bow.
The man then fled on foot, however in a combined effort officers including the Dog Squad and the City Safe camera team located him at the rear of a nearby furniture store.
He was arrested without incident and has been charged with attempted robbery, enter with intent and wilful damage.
The 41-year-old Kensington man will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.

Serious traffic crash, Maroochydore
Police are investigating a serious traffic crash in Maroochydore last night.
Preliminary inquiries indicate around 7.05pm a 38-year-old man stepped out onto Horton Parade between two parked buses when he was struck by a black utility travelling south.
The man sustained serious injuries and was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, before being airlifted to Brisbane.
The two occupants of the utility were not physically injured in the incident.
Anyone who may have dashcam vision is urged to come forward.

Sexual assault, Wangetti Beach
Police have charged a 20-year-old man after the alleged sexual assault of a 26-year-old Cairns woman at Wangetti Beach yesterday.
It will be alleged around 9am a man approached a woman who was taking photos on the side of the Captain Cook Highway before striking up a conversation and requesting she drive him to his car.
The woman drove the man to his car and then agreed to walk with him on Wangetti Beach.
Police will allege, while on the beach, the man sexually assaulted the woman and attempted to rape her before she managed to flee from the beach.
A 20-year-old Kowanyama man has been charged with one count of assault with intent to rape.
He is expected to appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday July 6.

Special Junior Constable Travis joins the Service
The Queensland Police Service is delighted to announce six-year-old Brisbane boy, Travis Heery, who is battling a terminal illness, has been sworn into the Service as an honorary junior police officer.
Little Travis has always wanted to be a police officer.
Unfortunately, in his final weeks of Prep, he was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas (DIPG) which is an aggressive and incurable tumour that grows in the brainstem.
Showing his bravery and resilience, Travis has received 30 radiation treatments, which successfully gave him full motion back and for two blissful months, and he was able to be a normal six year old boy.
Travis’ mum, Kaye, said that sadly, the tumour has returned and has now entered a state of progression which will eventually take Travis’s ability to speak, eat and eventually breathe.
“He is courageous beyond measure,” Kaye said.
“He takes every blow with a great attitude and has endured more than most adults.

Stolen taxi and assault, Gold Coast
Police have charged a man following the alleged theft of a taxi on the Gold Coast.
Around 2am, the 23-year-old taxi driver attended the Gold Coast University Hospital where two men entered the vehicle and agreed to share a fare to separate Hinterland addresses.
As the taxi arrived at a licensed premises one of the men, seated in the back, paid the driver and exited.
It will be alleged the second man, seated in the front, refused to pay resulting in the driver calling police.
When the driver exited the taxi to speak on the phone to police it will be alleged the passenger moved to the driver’s seat and accelerated away.
As the man drove off in the taxi it will be alleged he struck the driver as he attempted to stop it. The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Robina Hospital for treatment.

Marine search, Moreton Bay
Water Police are appealing for public assistance to identify the owner of a kayak sighted this afternoon in Moreton Bay.
Around 3.15pm, a small inflatable grey and yellow kayak was sighted by a member of the public approximately six nautical miles east of Drury Point, Scarborough. Water Police conducted a search of the waters however have failed to locate the craft or any person in the water.
Unconfirmed reports indicate around 1pm an unknown inflatable craft was sighted about one nautical mile off Drury Point and a woman was recovered from this location by a passing jet ski and returned to Scarborough Beach.
Police are appealing for the woman or the rider of the jet ski to contact Brisbane Water Police, to confirm whether these incidents are related.
Any person who may have seen the kayak or has further information is urged to contact police.

Fatal shark attack, Fraser Island
A 36-year-old Sunshine Coast man has died following a fatal shark bite off Fraser Island.
The man was spearfishing in the waters off Indian Head when he was bitten by a shark.
A doctor and nurse provided first aid to the man on the shore, prior to paramedics attending the scene.
The man sustained injuries to his leg and succumbed to those injuries just after 4.30pm.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Attempted armed robbery, Kirwan
Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a man in Kirwan early this morning.
It will be alleged around 5am a 70-year-old man was walking back to his car after withdrawing cash from an ATM on Thuringowa Drive when he was confronted by two boys, who stood at either side of the vehicle and demanded he hand over the cash he had withdrawn.
One of the boys allegedly threatened the man with a solid object while demanding cash.
The man refused to comply and walked towards the boys who have subsequently fled from the scene in a red Mitsubishi Lancer, travelling north along Thuringowa Drive.
The boys are described as Aboriginal in appearance and being 130cm and 150cm tall. One of the boys was wearing a black mask and a black cap.
It is believed another male was driving the Mitsubishi Lancer.
Investigations into the matter are continuing.
