Police officer suspended, Central Region

A 50-year-old male sergeant from Central Region has been suspended from the Queensland Police Service.
The officer is being investigated in relation to unlawfully taking property from a supermarket on multiple occasions.
The officer has been issued with a Notice to Appear for eight counts of unauthorised dealing with shop goods and is due to appear before the Mackay Magistrates Court on October 1.
In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when an officer faces serious allegations of misconduct.
This does not mean that the allegations against the officer have been substantiated.

QPS partners with Dementia Australia to lead community change

Joining forces to help make a Dementia Friendly society! Acting Deputy Commissioner Alistair Dawson and QPS Dementia Friends with Dementia Australia Ambassadors The Veronicas
The Queensland Police Service is partnering with Dementia Australia to help increase awareness and understanding of dementia through the Dementia Australia Dementia Friends program.
The QPS is the first of Australia’s policing bodies to be involved in this nation-wide initiative, with the announcement made in Brisbane on September 4 as part of Dementia Awareness Month, which runs throughout September.
Today’s event was attended by members of the community, people with dementia and their carers and many QPS officers who have already signed up as Dementia Friends.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Alistair Dawson APM formally represented the QPS and presented at a panel discussion along with Dementia Australia Ambassadors Jessica and Lisa Origliasso from The Veronicas, Dementia Advocates Eileen and Dubhglas Taylor and Dementia Australia CEO Maree McCabe.

Charges for Jimboomba woman after failing to follow animal welfare direction

In a first for the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission, a 20-year-old Jimboomba woman has been charged with failing to comply with an animal welfare direction under the Racing Integrity Act 2016.
A joint QPS Queensland Racing Crime Squad (QRCS) and QRIC investigation saw officers issue an Animal Welfare Direction at the thoroughbred racing participant’s Jimboomba property on Sunday August 26 when a horse was found to be in a poor condition. The woman was directed to obtain a veterinary examination for the horse, report the results to the Commission, increase the horse’s feed and bring in the services of a farrier.
As a result of information received on Sunday September 2, IIT and QRCS officers were called to inspect the thoroughbred.  The woman was arrested and charged when the thoroughbred was found to be further deteriorating after she allegedly failed to comply with the direction given a week before.
