Retailers beware: why you shouldn’t allow transactions without a card

The Queensland Police Service is encouraging retailers to be aware of the risks of a fraud occurring in stores using the retailer’s own EFTPOS facilities.
‘Card not present’ fraud occurs when stolen credit card details are used for a transaction where the credit card is not physically present and stolen credit card details are manually entered.
“In recent months we’ve seen offenders manually enter stolen credit card details into EFTPOS terminals in stores across South East Queensland. This means they can make fraudulent transactions without a card physically present and without a PIN,” Detective Superintendent Terry Lawrence  said.
“This type of fraud is particularly concerning for businesses. The costs are incurred by the retailer as it is their EFTPOS facility used to commit the fraud.

Revocation of stand down, Central Region

A 41-year-old male senior constable from Central Region who was stood down from official duty with the Queensland Police Service on February 16 2018 will now return to operational duties following the revocation of the stand down.
The officer was the subject of an internal discipline process for domestic violence incident which is now finalised.
In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when an officer faces serious allegations of misconduct. This does not mean that the allegations against the officer have been substantiated.

Sexual assault charges, Longreach

A 42-year-old Yeppoon man has been charged with rape and sexual assault following two incidents in Longreach.
This morning, police from the Major and Organised Crime Squad (Rural) Longreach and Rockhampton charged the man who is alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman in Longreach in March 2018 and a second woman in Longreach in December 2017.
The man will appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 20, 2018.
