Vehicle intercept leads to drug arrest – Burleigh Heads

Police have charged a man after the alleged discovery of a large quantity of methamphetamine during a vehicle intercept at Burleigh Heads yesterday afternoon.
Around 5.50pm detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) intercepted a vehicle driving along West Burleigh Road.
The driver of the vehicle was acting suspiciously which led police to conduct a search of his vehicle.
It is alleged police located a quantity of methylamphetamine (ICE) valued in excess of $10,000 and a smoking implement.
A 42-year-old man from Currumbin Waters has been charged with possession of dangerous drug in excess of the schedule and possession of a utensil.
He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on May 2.
Detective Inspector Brendan Smith from Gold Coast CIB said this overnight arrest demonstrates the mantra of drug enforcement occurring anytime, anywhere.

Armed robbery Beenleigh

Police are searching for two men who robbed a tavern at Beenleigh at gunpoint in the early hours of this morning.
Around 1.50am two men armed with sawn off firearms entered the Distillery Road tavern and made demands for money obtaining cash from two female employees, aged 48 and 27 years, and a 42-year-old male patron of the business.
The men then demanded access to a number of poker machines where they obtained further money.
During the incident it appears one of the men discharged a firearm into the floor.
No one was injured during the robbery.
Both of the men are described as Caucasian in appearance, aged between 18 to 25 years and were wearing runners, track pants, dark coloured hoodies, gloves and their faces covered.

Firearm and drug arrest – Gold Coast

A man will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today charged over allegedly producing a firearm during a disturbance at an accommodation block at Labrador on Monday, April 1.
It is alleged around 9pm an altercation occurred between two men at a Marine Parade address when the firearm was produced.
No one was physically injured during the incident.
Following extensive investigations detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch, with the support of specialist police yesterday executed a search warrant at an Essex Court residence at Nerang and arrested a man.
During a search of the residence police allegedly located a replica handgun, dangerous drugs (fantasy) and a drug utensil.
A 22-year-old Nerang man has been charged with one count each of going armed to cause fear, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of utensil and will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.

Attempted murder charge, Woree

A 26-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder following investigations into an incident at Woree last month.
It will be alleged around 7am on Monday March 18, at a Woree home, the woman assaulted a 7-year-old boy with a knife, causing a cut to his chest.
Another woman is alleged to have intervened and disarmed the 26-year-old and fled with the 7-year-old to a neighbour’s house, alerting emergency services.
The woman has been charged with attempted murder and attempted assault occasioning bodily harm.
She is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
The boy was transported to the Cairns Hospital for treatment of his injuries and has since been released.
All parties are known to each other.

Armed robbery, Waterford West

Police have charged a man following an alleged armed robbery at a restaurant in Chambers Flat Road, Waterford West this evening.
A 40-year-old Park Ridge man allegedly entered the business shortly before 7pm brandishing a knife and demanding cash from a staff member.
A witness allegedly intervened, striking the 40-year-old, causing him to drop the knife.
Police will allege the man was subdued until police arrived a short time later, placing him under arrest.
The Park Ridge man was later charged with enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence and attempted armed robbery.
He is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court tomorrow.
Investigators are keen to hear from any witnesses who have not been spoken to.

Armed robbery, Nundah

Police have charged a man following an armed robbery in Nundah this afternoon.
Officers were called to a hairdressing salon on Sandgate Road at 1.40pm after a man entered the business and produced a knife.
He demanded money and pushed a female employee into a shelf before stealing a sum of cash from the till and a mobile phone. He then fled the scene.
Woman did not require medical treatment at the scene.
A 46-year-old East Brisbane man was charged with armed robber and obstructing police.
He will appear in Brisbane Magistrate Court tomorrow.

Drug charges, Park Ridge

Officers from Inala Tactical Crime Squad have charged a man with drug offences following a routine traffic stop at Park Ridge on Tuesday.
Police intercepted a Toyota Corolla sedan on the Mount Lindesay Highway shortly before midday and it will be alleged a subsequent search of the vehicle located two kilograms of methylamphetamine (ICE).
A 25-year-old Park Ridge man was arrested and charged with possession of a dangerous drug and appeared in the Richlands Magistrates Court yesterday where he is due to reappear on May 27

Death investigation, Cairns

An investigation is underway following the location of a deceased man at a Bungalow recycling facility on Wednesday afternoon.
Employees at the facility made the discovery just after midday whilst sorting a load of cardboard products in preparation for recycling.
Preliminary inquiries indicate the man’s body was amongst a load of recyclable material in an industrial recycling bin which had been collected from the Cairns CBD early yesterday morning.
Police have identified the deceased man as 52-year-old Paul Goodwin, who had lived in Cairns since 2018. Paul is believed to have lived an itinerant lifestyle since arriving in the far north.
Detectives have established Paul was last seen in the Cairns area at around 8am on Tuesday, March 26.
Assistance is sought from the community to establish his movements between the last sighting on Tuesday, and the location of his body yesterday afternoon.

Traffic crash, South Brisbane

Forensic Crash Unit is investigating a traffic crash that occurred at the intersection of Peel Street and Merivale Street yesterday.
At about 8:20am, a motorbike and a truck were both turning left from Merivale Street into Peel street.
The rider of the motorbike has lost control of the bike, resulting in the rider falling from the bike and colliding with the rear wheels of the truck.
The 33-year-old male rider was transported to the Princess Alexander Hospital for treatment.
The 49-year-old male truck driver was uninjured.

Drug and firearms charges, South Brisbane

Police have arrested and charged several people following the closure of a joint operation targeting drugs and firearms.
Operation Ashhurst-Bideford is a joint ongoing operation between the Queensland Police Service Drug and Serious Crime Group and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission.
Three men were arrested by police last night as a result of search warrants executed in South Brisbane.
Police located and seized 6.6 kilograms of MDMA (estimated value of $1.3 million), $31,450 in cash and one handgun with a silencer attached.
A 24-year-old Holland Park man was charged with 13 offences including trafficking and supplying dangerous drug, supplying and unlawfully possessing a Category H weapon (handgun) and possession of ammunition and proceeds of crime.
A 22-year-old Tanah Merah man was charged with 14 offences including trafficking and supplying dangerous drugs, unlawfully supplying Category H weapon, possessing proceeds of crime and possession of explosives.
A 26-year-old Mt Gravatt man was charged with seven offences including trafficking
