Firearms and drug equipment seized in cross-border joint operation, Gold Coast

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Drug and Serious Crime Group have charged two Gold Coast men and located firearms and clandestine drug equipment as part of a joint agency investigation into the interstate supply of drugs and firearms.
Following search warrants executed on three addresses on the Gold Coast yesterday, a 27 year-old Highland Park man and 36 year-old Mudgeeraba man were arrested. During the searches, detectives located and seized thirteen firearms at a Mudgeeraba house and two pill presses at a storage shed at Ashmore. These have been used in the production of MDMA.
Police also seized drugs, cash and other items used in the production of dangerous drugs along with computer equipment, hard drives and mobile phones. Also located and seized at the Mudgeeraba address were 20,000 rounds of ammunition.

Break and enter, Coomera

Police are investigating after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) was used to break into a shopping centre at Coomera in the early hours of this morning.
Just after 4.30am police were called after a stolen silver Audi Q5 was driven into the main entrance of the Foxwell Road business to gain entry.
One offender exited the SUV, ran into the shopping complex and used an implement to smash their way into a jewellery store and the display cabinets stealing trays of jewellery.
The offender went back to the vehicle which then drove off.
Extensive damage was caused to the main entrance and jewellery store.
Police believe the silver Audi Q5 with distinctive roof racks, which was stolen from Seven Hills on June 21 and used in the offence, will have substantial damage to the vehicle.
Investigations are ongoing.

Serious traffic crash, Yeppoon

Police are investigating a serious motorcycle crash that occurred at Yeppoon yesterday evening.
At about 8pm a motorcycle travelling on Matthew Flinders Drive has turned into Poplar Street when the rider has lost control, causing the motorbike to collide with a tree.
The impact of the crash has caused significant injuries to the motorcyclist.
The 22-year-old man was transported to the Rockhampton Base Hospital for treatment to life-threatening-injuries.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident or anyone with dashcam vision of the area at the time to make contact.
Investigations into the crash are continuing.

Homicide investigation, The Range

A crime scene has been declared following the death of a 42-year-old woman at The Range in Rockhampton this evening.
Shortly after 6.30pm, police were called to a Brae Street address following reports a woman had received multiple stab wounds.
Upon arrival, police commenced CPR, however she was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.
Police conducted searches of the surrounding area and located a man on Pennlington Street, at approximately 8.20pm.
The 45-year-old man sustained what is believed to be self-inflicted wounds and was transported to Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition.
Police will allege the man and woman were known to each other.
Investigations are continuing.

Serious domestic violence incident, Brisbane

A 28-year-old man has been charged following a serious domestic violence incident in Brisbane.
Police attended a Newstead residence after receiving information the man had prevented a 25-year-old woman from leaving the house after seriously injuring her.
The woman sustained serious abdominal and facial injuries.
She was transported to hospital to undergo further medical assessment and treatment.
The 28-year-old Newstead man has been charged with torture, deprivation of liberty, wounding, choking (domestic violence offence) and acts intended to main, disfigure or disable. He was also charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, possessing drug utensils and receiving tainted property.
The man has been denied police bail and is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Departmental traffic crash investigation, North Rockhampton

Police are investigating a traffic crash in North Rockhampton involving a police vehicle and a male pedestrian this morning.
It will be alleged police were attempting to speak to a man along Alexandra Street in Park Avenue just before 10am regarding property related matters, when he ran from police.
Preliminary information suggests the man ran onto the roadway and into the path of an unmarked police vehicle.
 It is further alleged the man then struggled violently with police on the ground, during which time a taser was deployed and the man taken into custody.
 A 38-year-old West Rockhampton man sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
He was issued with a Notice to Appear for assault of a police officer and is expected to face the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 6.
An investigation, overviewed by the Ethical Standards Command, has commenced.

Australia’s biggest child safety lesson

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is encouraging community members to register for Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson (ABCSL).
For the first time ever, the Daniel Morcombe Foundation is producing two editions of ABCSL.
On June 25, the live-streamed lessons will focus on online safety strategies for children aged between eight to 12-years-old. On September 10, as part of National Child Protection Week, they will deliver a second lesson specifically for children aged four to seven covering key messages about secrets.
The 25 minute educational lesson will focus specifically on online safety skills, including expert advice from Australia’s eSafety Commissioner and includes a video from a child’s perspective about the online world.

The protection of children is a high priority for the QPS, which has dedicated officers working in the Child Abuse and Sexual Crime Group including Argos the specialist unit investigating internet facilitated child exploitation. Drugs seized during routine traffic stop, Logan

A 27-year-old Cornubia man will face two counts of possessing dangerous drugs after Logan police allegedly uncovered a significant amount of cocaine and methylamphetamine during a routine traffic stop.
Just before 7pm on Friday 19 June, police intercepted a white Mazda utility vehicle travelling along Maranda Street in Shailer Park.
After conducting a licence check, police allegedly found close to 130 grams of cocaine concealed in five plastic bags. Police allegedly also found close to 30 grams of methylamphetamine in a grocery bag, as well as a small quantity of MDMA. Police also allegedly seized $1,000 cash.
The drugs are believed to have a street value of close to $50,000.
The man will appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on September 16.

Habitual consorting and drug possession charges, Gold Coast

A 27-year-old Gold Coast man and member of the Mongols Outlaw Motorcycle Gang has been charged by Taskforce Maxima this morning on consorting and drug offences.
The man was charged following the execution of a search warrant on an Ashmore home today where drugs were located.
Police will also allege the man consorted personally or by phone with four other OMCG members.
The man will be appearing in Southport Magistrates Court later today.

Fraud charges, Mount Pleasant

A 36-year-old Mount Pleasant woman was charged yesterday with fraud following a protracted investigation by the State Crime Command’s Financial and Cyber Crime Group.
It is alleged that between May 2016 and May 2017 the woman, misappropriated approximately $894,000 whilst employed as a solicitor for a Brisbane-based company for her own use.
A criminal investigation commenced after police received information from the Queensland Law Society in April 2020.
The woman was charged with 13 fraud-related offences including: eleven counts of fraud – dishonestly induces delivery of property by employee and two counts of forgery and uttering.
The woman was bailed to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 17.
Detective Acting Inspector Adam Bennett of the Financial and Cyber Crime Group said this type of offending is treated very seriously, with yesterday’s arrest reflecting the QPS’s commitment to ensuring people in positions of trust are held to account.
