Drug arrest, Surfers Paradise

Detectives from the Gold Coast’s Major and Organised Crime Squad and Taskforce Maxima have arrested and charged a Mongols Outlaw Motorcycle Gang associate after officers allegedly located drugs, including methylamphetamine and GBL during the search of a Surfers Paradise unit on Saturday.
Police executed a search warrant at a Ferny Avenue apartment complex around 2.40pm (June 6) where they allegedly located drugs, firearm parts and ammunition.
A 29-year-old Southport man was arrested and charged with possessing dangerous drugs, possessing restricted drugs, possessing relevant substance, failing to dispose of a syringe and possessing utensils.
He remains in custody and is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.
Police also arrested and charged a 29-year-old Surfers Paradise woman with possession of dangerous drugs. She is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on August 26.
Police investigations are continuing.

Eight lives lost in 72 hours

Several serious crashes over the weekend have prompted police to issue a warning to motorists to drive responsibly.
This weekend alone has seen eight lives lost on Queensland’s roads with a number of others now suffering serious injuries.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, four lives were lost in Townsville when a car flipped after clipping a roundabout. This was after an infant died in a single vehicle traffic crash in Mackay on Saturday afternoon.
Two men also died in a three-vehicle collision around 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon at Bethania.
Later Sunday night, a collision occurred between a car and a truck on the Warrego Highway at Oakey. An altercation has occurred between the two drivers when the driver of the car attempted to grab hold of the truck as it drove off and was thrown into oncoming traffic.
A 19-year-old man was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Serious traffic crash, North Brisbane

Police are seeking witnesses to a single vehicle crash north of Brisbane in the early hours of this morning.
Just before 2am, a silver Mitsubishi Lancer was observed travelling at high speed southbound along the Bruce Highway before crashing near the southbound on-ramp of Dohles Rocks Road at Griffin.
The three occupants of the vehicle, a woman and two men, were transported to hospital in a serious condition.
Southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway between Anzac Avenue and Dohles Rocks Road were closed for several hours.
Anyone who witnessed crash, or have dashcam footage, are urged to contact police.

Update: Fatal traffic crash, Garbutt

A 14-year-old boy has been charged following a fatal traffic crash at Garbutt earlier today.
Around 4.30am, a car was travelling north on Duckworth Street when the vehicle has clipped the roundabout at the intersection of Bayswater Road and overturned. It also hit a traffic light pole.
Three girls and a boy died at the scene.
The 14-year-old driver has since been charged with the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. He was also charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and burglary, as well as a count of possessing dangerous drugs.
He is due to appear in Townsville Children’s Court this month.

Fatal traffic crash, Bethania

Two men have died in a traffic crash at Bethania this afternoon.
Preliminary investigations indicate around 3:30pm three vehicles collided at the corner of Fletcher and Logan River roads.
A 54-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The second, a 37-year-old man died shortly afterwards, while two people were taken to Logan Hospital in stable conditions.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Fatal traffic crash, St Lawrence

A newborn baby has died following a single vehicle crash south of Mackay yesterday.
Just before 3.30pm, a man and woman were travelling on the Bruce Highway at St Lawrence when their car collided with a guard rail.
The woman, who was pregnant, was flown to Rockhampton Hospital.
Just before 7pm, the woman gave birth and the child passed away a few hours later.
Forensic crash unit is investigating.

Fatal traffic crash, Garbutt

Four teenagers have died in a single vehicle traffic crash in Garbutt this morning.
Preliminary inquiries indicate around 4.30am, a car was travelling north on Duckworth Street when the vehicle has clipped the roundabout at the intersection of Bayswater Road. The vehicle has overturned on its left side and hit a traffic light pole.
Four teenage passengers in the vehicle died at the scene.
The driver, a 14-year-old Townsville boy, has been transported to the Townsville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating.
Shortly before the crash the vehicle was sighted by police travelling north on Duckworth Street. As per normal protocols, Ethical Standards Command will overview the investigation.

Traffic crash, South Brisbane

Police are appealing for witnesses to a traffic crash in Brisbane’s south early this morning.
Around 12.30am, preliminary investigations suggest a white Holden Commodore was travelling along Stapylton Road when it failed to negotiate a roundabout near the Logan Motorway at Heathwood.
The car left the road and crashed down an embankment.
The two occupants of the vehicle were uninjured in the crash.
The driver, a 32-year-old NSW woman, has since been charged with driving under the influence of liquor.
Her 37-year-old male passenger, also from NSW, has also been charged with assaulting police after allegedly pushing an officer while they attempted to conduct a breath test on the driver.
The pair are due to appear in Richlands Magistrates Court on August 25.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward as investigations continue.

Fatal traffic crash, Lannercost

A 27-year-old Trebonne man has died after a single vehicle traffic crash in Lannercost this afternoon.
Preliminary inquiries indicate around 3pm, the man was driving along Abergowrie and Lannercost Extension Road, when the man lost control resulting in the car rolling.
As a result of the impact, the man sustained critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Forensic Crash Unit investigations continue.

Revocation of stand down police officer, State Crime Command

A 57-year-old male detective sergeant of the State Crime Command who was stood down from official duty with the Queensland Police Service will now return to operational duties.
The officer was stood down on October 9, 2019 in relation to drink driving which has now been finalised in the courts and disciplinary action has been instigated.
In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when an officer faces serious allegations of misconduct.
