Street disturbance, Edmonton

Police are investigating a street disturbance in Edmonton overnight after a teenage boy and two men sustained serious injuries.
Around 6.15pm, officers were called to reports of a group involving approximately 20 people fighting near Boyce Park.
All had dispersed prior to police arrival.
Then at 6.45pm police were notified a 20-year-old man and 49-year-old man had attended a nearby Queensland Ambulance Service station before being taken to Cairns Hospital with head injuries and a broken arm.
A third person presented directly to the Cairns Hospital and is also being treated for head injuries.
Police conducted a number of inquiries at nearby homes warning residents and appealing for witnesses to the incident.
Investigations are continuing. Police have not yet received any formal complaints at this time.

Fatal house fire, South Brisbane

A 72-year-old man has died following a house fire in Brisbane’s south overnight.
Police and emergency services were called to Gregory Street at Acacia Ridge just before 10pm where they found the house engulfed in fire.
The two occupants of the house, a 71-year-old woman and a 72-year-old man, were inside at the time.
The pair’s neighbour, a 56-year-old man, was able to assist the woman out of the house. Both were transported to hospital with minor injuries.
The 72-year-old man was later located deceased inside the house.
A crime scene has been declared as investigators work to determine the cause of the fire.

Update 1: Two men charged over shooting at Robertson in early April

Detectives from the Upper Mt Gravatt Criminal Investigation Branch investigating the alleged shooting of a man at Robertson on April 29 have today arrested and charged two Petrie men following the execution of a number of search warrants throughout Brisbane.
During the searches investigating officers located clothing and weapons with police hopeful further information will come from the community to help identify other people involved.
The men, aged 34, have been remanded in custody to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow charged with nine offences each including three counts of unlawful possession of a shortened firearm and unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts each of arson of a motor vehicle and burglary and commit indictable offence and one count each of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, deprivation of liberty, common assault, possess explosives (ammunition) and receiving tainted property.

Update 2: Sudden death, Surfers Paradise

Police today charged two 16-year-old girls with murder relating to the ongoing investigation into the death of a 19-year-old man in Surfers Paradise in May this year.
The two girls were both charged with one count of murder, one count of stealing, two counts of robbery, two counts of torture and two counts of deprivation of liberty.
The charges follow the discovery of the teenager’s body at the base of an apartment complex at View Avenue, Surfers Paradise, in the early hours of May 23.
Detectives will allege a group of people from one unit armed with a knife attended another unit where a robbery occurred prior to the man’s death.
Three men, aged 18, 20 and 22, were previously charged with one count of murder and two counts of armed robbery. On June 2 the three men were also charged with two counts of torture and one count of stealing.

Armed robbery, Sunnybank

Police are investigating the armed robbery of a convenience store in Sunnybank Hills early yesterday morning.
Around midnight, two men wearing red bandanas across their faces entered the Pinelands Road service station and approached the counter.
One demanded cash from the 23-year-old male attendant while the second made threats while holding a knife.
The first attempted to climb under the counter while the attendant opened the cash register and handed over the till. The two fled towards Farne Street on foot.
No one was physically injured.
The first offender was wearing a grey hoodie, dark coloured trackpants and grey shoes with a white stripe.
The second was wearing a black hoodie, dark coloured pants and grey sports shoes with a blue outline.
They were both wearing gloves and had bags, one blue, the other black.
Investigations are continuing.

Further arrest, Homicide investigation, Cannon Hill

Police today charged a 43-year-old woman with murder following a homicide investigation into the death of Willow Dunn at Cannon Hill.
This second arrest is the result of an ongoing investigation by detectives from the State Crime Command Homicide Investigation Unit, Child Trauma Unit and Morningside Child Protection Investigation Unit.
The Cannon Hill woman is expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court this afternoon.
At about 9.20am on Monday May 25, police were called to a Bent Street residence after the four-year-old girl was located deceased. Later that night a 43-year-old man, the girl’s father, was charged with murder.
The post mortem examination revealed that, at the time of her death she was experiencing serious malnourishment, along with many other health concerns that supported sustained mistreatment.
Detective Acting Inspector Chris Knight from the Homicide Investigation Unit said detectives are continuing to appeal for information and have initiated enquiries interstate as part of the investigation.

Police appeal: Businesses targeted, Browns Plains

Logan police have released CCTV footage and are appealing for information following a spike in break and enters at businesses in Browns Plains in the past month.
Police are currently investigating 23 known reported break-ins at the commercial retail and business precinct around Grand Plaza shopping centre, Westpoint, Village Square, Commerce Drive and Enterprise Drive.
Offenders have been caught on CCTV footage using various instruments to force entry into a number of businesses in the area, along with company vehicles parked in business car parks.
The majority of the offences have occurred in the commercial precinct in and around Grand Plaza shopping centre, in shops and businesses along Grand Plaza and Commerce Drive, Eastern Road and Enterprise Way.
A range of items have been stolen including clothing, cigarettes, mobile phones, computers, tools, money, push bikes and a range of other electrical appliances.

Appeal for information: Boat fire, Hope Island

Police are seeking witnesses to a boat fire at Hope Island last night.
At about 11.15pm, police and emergency services were called following reports of five boats engulfed in flames at the Hope Island Marina.
Police will allege two people were seen throwing petrol onto one of the boats before setting it alright.
Another four boats were damaged during the incident.
Detectives are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area between 10.30pm and 11.30pm to come forward.
No one was injured during the incident.

Health restrictions remain in place to keep Cherbourg safe

South Burnett police are continuing to assist Queensland Health in reducing the spread of COVID-19 with the Health Screening Checkpoint remaining in place for restricted access into the community.
Cherbourg was declared a Designated Area under the Commonwealth Biosecurity Act 2015 with entry conditions in place to assist in protecting the community from the virus.
At the Health Screening Checkpoint on Cherbourg Murgon Road, members of the Australian Defence Force assist Health Officers in checking people and vehicles entering Cherbourg to ensure motorists are complying with entry conditions.
While the Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council eased restrictions for Cherbourg residents to travel outside of the community, all other restrictions remain in place.
Inspector Graeme Paine said health screening measures were about protecting vulnerable members of the Cherbourg community.
“Thankfully, COVID-19 has not reached the Cherbourg community and we need to maintain health screening measures at the checkpoint to protect Cherbourg,” Inspector Paine said.

Queensland road safety mid-year snapshot

Police are urging motorists to make better decisions on the roads with a mid-year report revealing an eight per cent increase in the number of fatal traffic crashes across Queensland.
A total of 91 lives have been lost on Queensland roads in the first five months of 2020, up from 84 at the same time last year.
Motorcyclists were highly represented in the figures, with one in four of all fatalities either motorcycle riders or  passengers.
Road Policing Command Superintendent David Johnson said police were very concerned with trends in road trauma for the year so far.
“Despite less travel occurring on our roads so far this year due to COVID-19, we are seeing more trauma and that is a troubling.
“Importantly, many of the fatal traffic crashes which have occurred could have been prevented.
“Day-in and day-out, we are seeing road users make poor decisions on our roads and tragically, these decisions are having devastating
