A man has been charged following the attempted armed robbery of a store in Rothwell during the early hours of this morning.
Initial inquiries indicate the man is alleged to have forced entry into the grocer on Deception Bay Road just before 3am wearing a mask and wielding a samurai sword.
It is further alleged he threatened the male shop attendant with the sword and demanded money.
The 44-year-old worker has then made a hasty retreat through the rear loading dock door.
Meanwhile, the man with the sword has allegedly continued around the shop in search of the staff locker area.
He allegedly took two bottles of orange juice, before using the blade to smash through the front door to exit.
The man was taken into custody shortly afterwards at the corner of Cambridge street and Jacka Court.
A 21-year-old man has been charged with enter premises with intent, stealing, wilful damage and attempted armed robbery.

Update: Fatal traffic crash, Brighton
Forensic Crash Unit investigators have renewed their appeal for witnesses to a fatal motorcycle crash at Brighton last weekend.
Around 7:45pm on Saturday, April 18, a motorcyclist was travelling on Nathan Road when it struck a powerpole. A 49-year-old man died while a 36-year-old woman was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A silver or light blue sedan was seen travelling in the area and may have witnessed the crash.
Investigators do not believe the car was involved in the incident.
Police are appealing to the car’s driver, or anyone else who was in the area or may have dashcam footage, to come forward.

Four teens in custody following armed robberies in Toowoomba and South Brisbane
Four teenagers are in custody following three opportunistic and brazen daylight robberies in Toowoomba and Wishart today.
A 62-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman had their green Toyota Camry allegedly stolen from their driveway this morning as they were commemorating ANZAC Day in Olivedale Court at Rangeville.
Police will allege four teenagers, armed with a baseball bat and knives, threatened the pair, forcing them back inside their home, where they stole mobile phones before fleeing the couple’s Toyota Camry.
This vehicle was then driven to Wishart where the four occupants spotted another vehicle in a driveway in Coora Street. It will be alleged three of the teens exited the stolen Camry, armed with a baseball bat and knives, and threatened a 27-year-old Highgate Hill woman before stealing her 2016 grey Subaru XV.
Both stolen vehicles were driven away from the address and soon after, at around 10.45am they came across a 2016 white VW
Traffic crash, Sippy Downs
Police are investigating a two-vehicle traffic crash at Sippy Downs this morning.
Around 10.30am, a blue Mazda 2 hatchback and a white Hyundai sedan travelling east on Sunshine Coast Motorway collided.
Four people, a 46-year-old female driver from one vehicle and two women in their 80s and a 5-year-old boy in the second vehicle, were airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
Traffic diversions were in place for several hours.

Appeal for public assistance, Redcliffe
Detectives from the Redcliffe Criminal Investigation Branch are appealing to the public for information about a shooting in Scarborough on Wednesday (April 22).
Around 2pm a 24-year-old man was involved in a verbal dispute with two men known to him at a Mein Street address.
This escalated into a physical confrontation during which time the man sustained a gunshot wound to the back of his leg.
He was taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have CCTV or dash cam vision of a bronze 2003 Holden Commodore sedan bearing Queensland registration plates 876 ZBM which was seen heading in a northern direction to contact them.

A man has died in a single vehicle traffic crash at Waterford West this morning.
Initial investigations suggest a utility was travelling south along Kingston Road around 7:30am, when it collided with a power pole and a set of traffic lights at the Allora Street intersection.
A 43-year-old Holmview man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Road diversions will remain in place for the rest of the day.

Spike in speeding drivers in Queensland
A sharp rise in the rate of speeding motorists on Queensland roads is continuing to cause concern for police with a 26 per cent increase in speed camera detection rates.
Road Policing Command Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating said officers had also reported disturbingly high speeds across the state over the past month.
“Despite a 30 per cent reduction of vehicles on Queensland roads, we are seeing a significant increase in the proportion of speeding drivers,” Assistant Commissioner Keating said.
“It is very concerning how often our officers and speed camera systems are detecting exceptionally high speeds.
“The risks of speeding have not changed and the faster you go, the more consequence there is if you hit something or someone else.”
In the past five weeks, the overall rate of detection (per 1,000 vehicles monitored) for operating speed cameras increased by an average of 26 per cent.

Fatal traffic crash, Proserpine
Two people have died following a head-on traffic crash on the Bruce Highway south of Proserpine this morning.
Preliminary investigations indicate, a car travelling northbound on the Bruce Highway collided with a truck travelling south on the O’Connell River Bridge at Lethebrook just before 6am.
The two people were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The 43-year-old driver of the truck is assisting police.
The Bruce Highway will remain closed in both directions for some time while Forensic Crash Unit investigators continue to assess the scene.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or may have dashcam footage is urged to contact police.

Attempted armed robbery – Southport
Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a service station at Southport overnight.
Around 9pm the 50-year-old male store employee saw a man acting suspiciously outside the Nerang Street business and directed a customer inside the store to leave.
The attendant then retreated to a back room.
The man entered the store before the 59-year-old male customer could leave and threatened him with a firearm while making demands for money.
After the customer advised the man that he was not an employee and could not open the till, he fled the scene empty-handed.
The man is described as being aged in his 20’s and wearing a black hoodie, sunglasses and shorts.
No one was physically injured in the incident.
Investigations are ongoing.
