Update: Unlawful wounding, Bellbird Park

Police have charged a man after the stabbing of a 29-year-old woman in Bellbird Park during the early hours of this morning.
It will be alleged the man lunged at the woman with a knife when she answered her door at a Redbank Plains Road unit complex around 12:40am.
The 71-year-old Bellbird Park man has been charged with two counts of common assault and one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.
He is due to front the Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday morning (February 9).

Taxi driver assaulted, Sarina

A taxi driver remains in a critical condition at Mackay Base Hospital after he was assaulted in Sarina yesterday evening.
Initial inquiries indicate around 6pm a motorist noticed a taxi had crashed into a power pole on Brewers Road.
The 62-year-old man sustained injuries to the right side of his chest and emergency services were notified.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the taxi, used a taxi in Sarina before 6pm or who has relevant dashcam vision to contact them.

Unlawful wounding, Bellbird Park

A man is assisting police with inquiries following the alleged stabbing of a woman in Bellbird Park overnight.
It will be alleged around 12.40am a man attended at a neighbouring unit in a Redbank Plains Road unit complex.
When the woman answered the door, the man lunged at the woman and knocked her to the ground before stabbing her in the left arm, lower chest and abdomen.
The 29-year-old woman was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.
A 71-year-old Bellbird Park man is assisting police with inquires.

Fatal traffic crash, Gunalda (Gympie)

Forensic Crash Unit are investigating after two people passed away as a result of a serious traffic crash in Gunalda yesterday afternoon.
At 4pm, two cars have collided head on along Anderleigh Road in Gunalda.
A man and a woman who were travelling in the same car, died at the scene.
A man aged 26 and two boys aged 15 and 13 who were travelling in the second car, were treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage or any information of the incident to come forward.

International Women’s Day event celebrates women in public safety

Officers from Queensland’s public safety and associated agencies have come together today (March 6) to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The theme for this year’s event was Be Brave, Be True, Be You; focusing on authenticity and bravery within the agencies.

Assault and robbery, Maroochydore

Police are appealing for information following the assault and robbery of a teenage boy in Maroochydore on Tuesday night.
Around 7.10pm, a 16-year-old boy was seated at the Horton Parade North bus terminal when he was approached by two men.
One of the men sat beside the boy and after a brief conversation the man grabbed the boy by the throat and made demands for his white, grey and black coloured Nike brand jacket. He made further threats before walking away with the boy’s jacket (pictured).
 
He is described as being in his twenties to early thirties, 180cms tall, medium build with short sandy coloured hair with a ‘rat’s tail’. He was wearing a white Puma T-shirt, board short and thongs (pictured).
The second man is described as being in his twenties to early thirties, 182cms tall, solid build with a short unkempt beard. He was wearing a black T-shirt and red hat.

Appeal for witnesses – serious traffic crash, Miles

Police are appealing for witnesses or dashcam vision following a serious motorcycle crash in Miles on Saturday, February 29.
Around 12.20pm, a man and woman were riding on a black 2004 Honda VTR1000F motorcycle east on Murilla Street towards Colamba Street.
At the intersection of Wallen Street, the motorcycle collided with a vehicle while overtaking and both the rider and pillion were thrown from the motorcycle.
The man and woman were both seriously injured and flown to hospital.
Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam or CCTV footage to contact police.
It will be alleged the Honda VTR1000F was stolen from an address on Pine Street around 11.30am that morning.

Unlawful Use of Motor Vehicle charges, Mermaid Waters

Police have charged a 40-year-old man after the unlawful use of a motor vehicle in Mermaid Waters this morning.
Initial investigations indicate around 8:30am officers were patrolling the area when they noticed a stolen white Toyota Hilux utility parked on Lakeview Boulevard.
Officers attempted to intercept the four-wheel drive however the vehicle rammed a police car and reversed into another.
Police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device in the process, before the ute was driven a short distance to Dunlop Court.
The driver then fled on foot from the vehicle.
A member of the public walking his dog across a nearby bridge saw the man running and was able to stop him until police arrived.
The man was taken into custody shortly afterwards without incident.
A 16-year-old girl in the utility was also taken into custody.

Drugs and firearms arrest Gold Coast

Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch detectives have charged a 29-year-old man after a large quantity of drugs and a handgun were allegedly discovered after a car was intercepted by officers on the Gold Coast yesterday.
Around 11am yesterday police intercepted a Holden Commodore on Smith Street at Southport.
A search warrant was executed on the vehicle where it is alleged a revolver, a large quantity of a crystal substance believed to be Ice, a five-litre plastic bottle of clear liquid believed to be Fantasy and other drugs were located.
As a result around 2.10pm yesterday detectives executed a further search warrant on a Ferny Avenue unit at Surfers Paradise where it is alleged detectives located another handgun, a large quantity of ammunition and further amounts of methylamphetamine.

Townsville’s New Police Recruits undergo intensive training

Police recruits at the Townsville Police Academy are undergoing intensive training to prepare them for the challenging and sometimes dangerous situations they will encounter on the job.
Today, Police Minister Mark Ryan joined senior officers to observe a variety of “scenario” training exercises recruits are put through to ready them for a career in policing.
The Police Minister said the Queensland Police Service enjoys an international reputation as a world class operation for good reason.
“Our police are now better trained than ever before.
“The kind of training recruits undergo at the Townsville Academy is challenging and demanding, but it gives recruits the skills they need when they hit the streets after graduation.
“They learn how to make good decisions even when they are in highly pressured and sometimes dangerous situations.
“Today we witnessed the recruits learning the importance of being capable of making split-second decisions in what could be a life-or-death situation,” the Minister said.
