Assault charge, Mackay

A 36-year-old man has been charged following the alleged assault of an off-duty police officer in Mount Pleasant last night.
Around 10pm, the off-duty senior constable noticed a man allegedly trespassing on his neighbour’s property. The officer located the man and contacted police.
It will be alleged that while waiting for police to arrive, a vehicle pulled up at the scene, with a man exiting the vehicle and assaulting the officer.
The officer was able to restrain the man until police arrived on scene.
The officer, a 38-year-old man, sustained a number of abrasions and a chipped tooth. He was transported to the Mackay Base Hospital for treatment.
A 36-year-old McEwans Beach man has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm in company and is due to appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on May 8.
A 24-year-old Mackay West man has been charged with trespass and is also due to appear in the Mackay Magistrates
