Evade police, Smithfield

A man and woman have been charged after allegedly driving a stolen utility dangerously and evading police in Cairns yesterday morning.
Around 3.30am officers observed the Toyota Hilux allegedly travelling at speed south on the Captain Cook Highway, just north of the McGregor Road towards Cairns.
Police monitored the ute as it continued onto Harvey Road, Eugenia Street and Toona Terrace where it stopped on a grassed area.
As police pulled up behind the ute, activated their lights and approached the vehicle it will be alleged the driver accelerated away at speed.
Officers then attempted to locate the ute and observed it travelling through the intersection of Kamerunga Road and Daphne Street a short time later.
A tyre deflation device was deployed, however it will further be alleged the ute continued through a number of streets and crossing onto the wrong side of the road.
