NYE celebrations – Gold Coast

Revellers across Queensland were well behaved as the state welcomed 2019.
Whilst police across Queensland reported a busy night as people farewelled one year and welcomed another, revellers at major events throughout the state were mostly well behaved.
Overall crowds on the Gold Coast were family orientated with large numbers seen at many public events and celebratory locations.
The large crowds across the Coast for NYE saw police arrest 58 people on 90 charges with one police officer left with a broken nose following an alleged assault*.
Across the Gold Coast District some of the charges included assault occasioning bodily harm, going armed so as to cause fear (knife), possessing of stolen property and three counts of stealing.
Nineteen people were charged with drug offences and six with possessing a drug utensil.
Officers conducted more than 1,000 random breath tests and issued 44 traffic infringement notices.
Many incidents were minor in nature and related to anti-social behaviour
