Today, Friday October 19, Constable Michael Mayrseidl from Holland Park Police Station, presented a Sequoia Giganteum tree (Californian Redwood), to the Australian War Widows, Queensland.
The Californian Redwood is considered to be one of the tallest trees in the world, growing to over 100 metres tall and three metres in diameter.
Today’s event, was the annual Jessie Vasey Day, who was the founder of the Australian War Widows, Queensland which started in 1947.
The Guild started as a support system that provided friendship, counselling, child-minding and above all an environment of mutual support where war widows could have a sense of belonging.
Constable Michael Mayrseidl said it was a great honour to present the tree to the War Widows Guild today.
“With the right nourishment and love and respect we can expect this tree to be here in thousands of years time.”
“This pot holds more then just a tree, it is a symbol and symbols are powerful much
