A Carina Heights man has been charged following a spate of alleged property crimes and arson at a Morningside sports facility in the early hours of 6 February.
Queensland Police allege the 33-year-old targeted multiple vehicles in a public car park near a sports facility on Col Gardner Drive during a three-hour period between 12.30am and 3.45am.
According to police, the man allegedly smashed windows and stole property from several vehicles before ramming through the front gates of the facility to access the secured grounds.
Police further allege that once inside, the man broke into another vehicle, stole golf clubs and set the vehicle alight.
Officers from Dutton Park Criminal Investigation Branch and Upper Mount Gravatt Tactical Crime Squad executed a search warrant at a Carina Heights address on 11 February. Police say they located the vehicle allegedly involved in the incident along with stolen property.
The man was taken into custody and charged with several offences, including entering premises and committing an indictable offence, entering premises with intent, wilful damage and arson.
He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to reappear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 2 March.

Six people have been charged with a total of 40 offences following a police investigation into hooning activity on Gateway Bridge on New Year’s Eve, with authorities seizing 13 vehicles during the operation.
Queensland Police allege several vehicles blocked northbound lanes of the Gateway Motorway at Murarrie around 11.50pm on 31 December 2025, where a group performed burnouts and let off fireworks before fleeing the scene prior to police arrival.
Detective Acting Inspector Sean Webster from North Brisbane District said the behaviour captured on social media footage posed serious risks to both participants and the wider community.
“Police will not tolerate driving dangerous acts of this nature,” Detective Acting Inspector Webster said in a statement released by Queensland Police Service on 20 January 2026.
He noted that footage showed people hanging out of cars while burnouts were being performed, describing the conduct as “very dangerous”.
Multi-region operation launched
In response to the incident, police established Operation Yankee Reacher, a multi-region policing operation led by Brisbane City Criminal Investigation Branch with support from CIBs, Highway Patrol and Tactical Crime Squads across South East Queensland.
Investigators executed multiple search warrants at addresses across Alexandra Hills, Caboolture, Daisy Hill, Ebbw Vale, Ellen Grove, Kingston, Logan Village, Ormeau, Waterford and Waterford West.
The 13 seized vehicles included a black Ford utility and multiple Ford Falcons in various colours. Police believe nine of the vehicles were involved in the New Year’s Eve incident, while three were allegedly stolen vehicles discovered during a search warrant at a Logan Reserve Road address in Waterford West. One vehicle was allegedly used in a separate hooning incident.
The six people charged range in age from 16 to 52 years old and face various offences including dangerous operation of a vehicle, participating in hooning group activity, and driving unregistered and uninsured vehicles.
Three teenagers aged 16, 18 and 19 have been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle involving publishing material on social media, among other offences.
A 52-year-old Logan Village man faces weapons charges after police allegedly found an unregistered air rifle and rifle during a search warrant at his property. He is expected to appear before Beaudesert Magistrates Court on 3 February.
Additionally, two 21-year-old men from Logan Village and Daisy Hill have been issued with traffic infringement notices totalling fines and demerit points for offences including wilfully starting or driving a vehicle in a way that makes unnecessary noise or smoke, and spectating without reasonable excuse in hooning group activity.
Further arrests anticipated
Detective Acting Inspector Webster confirmed investigations remain ongoing and police anticipate further arrests.
“We hope this sends a clear message that hooning and that sort of dangerous driving is unacceptable and is something that police take seriously,” he said, according to a report published by ABC News on 20 January 2026.
Police have urged anyone with information, dashcam footage or CCTV that may assist enquiries to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The enforcement action forms part of ongoing operations to detect and deter dangerous driving behaviours, building on Operation Xray Antler and day-to-day police activities focused on road safety.
The incident occurred around 10am in the shopping centre carpark off Creek Road, near the Bunnings store.
According to Queensland Police, the elderly pedestrian was struck by a grey Mitsubishi Triton utility driven by a 24-year-old Carindale man. The pedestrian sustained head injuries and was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver was not physically injured in the collision.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
Queensland Police are appealing for anyone with information, dashcam footage, or CCTV from the area at the time to come forward. Witnesses can contact Crime Stoppers to assist with the investigation.
Police are calling on the Murarrie community to help solve the mystery of a missing bronze statue that disappeared from the local recreation reserve more than four months ago.
The sculpture, which depicts a skateboarder performing a handplant manoeuvre, was taken from Murarrie Recreation Reserve on Wynnum Road around 1 April this year. The distinctive bronze artwork shows a skater balanced on one hand while gripping their skateboard with the other—a classic skateboarding trick that would be familiar to many users of the park’s popular skate facilities.
Murarrie Recreation Reserve, located on Wynnum Road approximately 6 kilometres east of Brisbane’s city centre, is home to a well-used skate park that serves the local skateboarding and cycling community. The facility includes skate park features alongside cycling tracks, basketball courts, and other recreational amenities, making it a hub for active recreation in the area.
The skate park has undergone recent improvements, with an extension approved in 2022 that added approximately 732 square metres of additional skating area and features. The broader recreation reserve is also set to house Brisbane’s new international-standard cycling facility as part of preparations for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The theft has left a noticeable gap in the park’s landscape, removing what was likely an important piece of community art celebrating the skateboarding culture that thrives at the venue. Bronze sculptures are particularly vulnerable to theft due to their material value, but this piece also held cultural significance for the skating community.
Queensland Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the theft or has information about the statue’s whereabouts to come forward. They are particularly interested in hearing from people who may have relevant CCTV footage or dashcam recordings from around the time of the incident.
Detective investigations are continuing under reference number QP2500729645. The delay between the theft and the public appeal suggests police have been pursuing other investigative leads before reaching out to the broader community for assistance.

A 50-year-old Morningside man was assaulted during a violent armed home invasion in what police believe may be part of a string of connected break-ins across Brisbane’s southern suburbs.
The incident occurred in the early hours of March 20, when a group of armed intruders broke into the man’s Morningside residence. When confronted by the homeowner, the perpetrators threatened him and demanded car keys, leading to a physical altercation that left the resident injured.
Police report the suspects fled the scene in a black sedan that had been stolen from a Cannon Hill home the previous day.
Significant to the Morningside community, security footage has emerged showing the suspected group attempting to break into another Morningside home approximately one hour before the assault. The footage captures the individuals using louvre removal tools in their attempt to gain entry.
This marks two targeted properties in Morningside within the same night, suggesting an increasing risk to local residents. The proximity and timing of these incidents have raised concerns about home security throughout the suburb.
Local authorities believe these Morningside break-ins may be connected to other property offences that occurred overnight in neighbouring suburbs. The crime spree appears to have begun in Bulimba at around 11 PM, before moving through Cannon Hill, Wakerley, and culminating in the violent Morningside assault.
Police are continuing their investigation and have called on Morningside residents with security cameras or any information related to suspicious activity in the area to come forward to assist with their inquiries.
On October 1, 2024, a hit-and-run traffic crash occurred on the Gateway Motorway in Murarrie. The incident, which took place at approximately 1:05 PM, has led to a police appeal for witnesses and information.
According to police reports, a blue Mazda 3 travelling southbound was struck from behind by a blue Holden Commodore. The Holden, with Queensland registration 483KG5, continued south after the collision without stopping.
The driver of the Mazda 3, identified as a 41-year-old woman from Capalaba, sustained minor injuries in the crash. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Queensland Police are currently investigating the Murarrie hit-and-run incident and have urged anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
The investigation into this hit-and-run incident is ongoing, with police actively seeking the driver of the blue Holden Commodore involved in the crash.
A series of audacious home invasions has left Morningside residents on edge, as masked intruders targeted multiple properties in the early hours of Wednesday morning, September 23. The most alarming incident involved thieves breaking into the bedroom of a sleeping infant.
Security footage from a home on Pockley Street captured the moment when several masked individuals approached the residence around 2 AM. The group was seen using scissors to cut through a screen door before entering the property. In a disturbing turn of events, the intruders made their way upstairs and into a child’s bedroom where a three-year-old was sleeping.
The thieves stole car keys and personal belongings before fleeing the scene. The recording captured one of the perpetrators urging the others to hurry.
This was not an isolated incident. Shortly after, the group struck again at a nearby home on Oberon Street. The resident reported that the intruders quickly entered his property, stole a handbag containing car keys, and made off with another vehicle. The victim stated that this was the second time his family had fallen victim to car theft.
The crime spree continued with a third car stolen from outside Jetts gym on Wynnum Road.
Local law enforcement has launched a major operation to apprehend the suspects. They are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the individuals involved.
Individuals with information are encouraged to contact Policelink by submitting details through the online suspicious activity form at www.police.qld.gov.au/reporting or by calling 131 444.

Chilling security footage shows a car pulling up to Windermere Ave around 1 am on June 12. Four people wearing hoodies and carrying flashlights can be seen exiting the vehicle and splitting up, with two heading in one direction while the other two check door handles on parked cars.
Moments later, a home security alarm is triggered, startling the alleged thieves, who immediately flee back to their getaway vehicle and speed off.
Resident Jeff Wilson’s family was awoken by the commotion around 1:10 am. “My daughter was woken at about 1:10 am from our camera, which has a built-in alarm that sends out a message saying you’re in an area you shouldn’t be in, basically, and please leave,” Wilson told reporters.
He believes the group had tried breaking into homes on his street as well as across the road before being scared off by the noise from the security system. “None of these people seemed to like noise. Noise seems to be the distracting thing. You can have cameras, they don’t really care about the cameras. It’s the noise that upsets them, because it awakes everyone in the area.”
Wilson says this isn’t the first time his home has been targeted, recounting a similar incident a couple of months prior where his security cameras deterred would-be intruders. “It’s happened more than once, but it’s happened pretty much the same way, with the system we’ve got actually startling them, and they’re like cockroaches.”
Thankfully, no one was harmed, and no property was taken or damaged during the brazen early morning crime spree. However, the incident has left the Morningside community on edge. Police are investigating the matter and reviewing security footage from the area. Residents are being warned to keep their homes and vehicles secure at all times.
Police are on the hunt for a burglar following a brazen daylight burglary in the suburb of Morningside around 12:10 pm on Wednesday, March 20th. An appeal for public assistance has been issued to identify a man caught on CCTV footage
According to investigators, the unknown suspect broke into a home on Wynnum Road. He allegedly made off with a quantity of jewellery and antique items before fleeing the scene on foot towards Moore Street and Redfern Street.
Fortunately, no one was harmed during the incident. However, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Unit in nearby Dutton Park have now released security camera vision showing a man they believe can help with their inquiries into the case.
Police suspect the burglary may be linked to another similar break-in that occurred in the Seven Hills area back in July 2023.
The public is being urged to take a close look at the CCTV footage. Anyone who recognises the individual or has any other relevant information is asked to contact authorities immediately.
Residents are reminded they can provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000 or visiting www.crimestoppersqld.com.au. The case reference number is QP2400495494.
