Police tech focus at conference
The Queensland Police Service focused on technology and big data issues as part of the inaugural Police Conference in Melbourne.
Commissioner Ian Stewart said conference delegates considered technological issues in the context of policing no longer being confined to the street, station or single jurisdiction.
“Rapidly advancing technology and hyper connectivity are creating challenges and opportunities for police,” Commissioner Stewart said.
“Tech crime is not confined to geographic areas; nor does it respect borders.
“Police need to share best practice and consistent approaches,” Commissioner Stewart said.
Other topics police leaders explored at the conference included trust, youth and capability.
Police commissioners met with other senior police leaders and executives at the conference hosted by police, for the policing community in Australia and New Zealand.
Conference delegates explored issues that are expected to affect, influence and impact policing now and into the future.
The conference has also investigated innovations that would shape the future policing environment and police workforce.
