QPS officers and staff members honoured at awards ceremony

Mrs Melissa McMahon MP, Member for Macalister today joined Commissioner Katarina Carroll to recognise many Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers and staff members for their diligent and ethical service.
Mrs McMahon was invited to present two national-level awards approved by the Governor-General of Australia acknowledging contributions to the Service and assisted Commissioner Carroll in presenting various other QPS awards.
Senior Sergeant Elisha Edwards and Senior Constable James Parsons were awarded the National Medal and the National Police Service Medal.
Senior Sergeant Edwards also received her 15-year clasp to the QPS Medal (QPSM).

The QPSM was awarded to Sergeant Emma McAuliffe, Senior Constable Courtney Burchard, Senior Constable Aydin Ozden, Ms Talitha Carter, Ms Michelle Davies, Ms Tanya Donaldson, Mr John Ferguson, Mr James Hinchliffe and Ms Megan Lederhose.
Detective Senior Sergeant Anthony Buxton and Detective Sergeant Ian Wells were awarded the first clasp to the National Medal.

Grow room located, Cairns

A man has been charged after a raid conducted yesterday by police from the Greater Cairns Task Force uncovered a cannabis grow house in Bentley Park.
Officers executed a search warrant on the Timberlea Drive residence around 6.30am and located the growing tent in the back room of the house complete with growing light, fans and ducting.
A quantity of cannabis plants, packaged cannabis, a grinder and equipment used for growing cannabis were seized during the search.
A 44-year-old Bentley Park man was charged with one count each of possess dangerous drugs, produce dangerous drugs, possess utensils and possess anything used in the commission of a crime.
He is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on December 9.

Armed robbery, Aitkenvale

Townsville detectives are investigating the armed robbery of a pharmacy in a shopping centre on Ross River Road, Aitkenvale that occurred today.
A man has entered the store around 8:30am and produced a knife.
He has then threatened two staff members, before demanding prescription medication.
He fled via the rear door of the pharmacy with a large quantity of prescription drugs.
The dog squad has been called to assist in locating the man who is described as of olive complexion and between 20 and 30 years of age.
Anybody who may have been in the area at the time is urged to contact police.

Sexual assault, Springfield

Police are appealing for witnesses of a sexual assault of a girl on a train from Springfield Central just after 7:30am yesterday.
A 15-year-old girl was on the train travelling between Darra and Toowong when a boy approached her and sat down.
The boy interfered with the girl’s clothes and touched her inappropriately, despite the girl’s resistance.
A member of the public witnessed the assault and was able to interrupt the boy’s attempts to continue.
The boy is described as having a dark complexion and wearing a green shirt.
It is believed that the boy was travelling in a group with two other boys, who were not involved in the assault.
Anyone who may have witnessed the assault, particularly the man who assisted the girl, is urged to contact police.

Armed robbery, Caloundra

Detectives are seeking public assistance in relation to an armed robbery at Caloundra earlier this morning.
Just before 5am, three men entered a hotel on Bulcock Street armed with firemans.
One of the men approached a staff member and demanded cash while the other two men monitored members of the public who were present in room.
The group of men stole a sum of money and left the hotel in a black Mitsubishi sedan.
Noone was physically injured.
Anyone with information that could identify the men are urged to come forward to police.

Drug charges, Townsville

Police have charged a woman and a man after conducting a search warrant on a property at Deeragun yesterday.
Just after 7:30am, police intercepted an unregistered vehicle on Ironbark Road. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located a sum of cash.
A 27-year-old female driver was charged with driving a motor vehicle without a license and driving a vehicle unregistered and uninsured.
Investigations led police to a property on Summerland Drive where a search warrant was executed.
Officers located a quantity of drugs including methylamphetamine and cannabis. They also located an allegedly unauthorised firearm, ammunition and a large sum of cash.
A 33-year-old man was charged with a total of 16 offences including trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing property obtained from trafficking, unlawful possession of a firearm and unauthorised ammunition.
In addition to the traffic-related offences, the 27-year-old North Ward woman was also charged with the same offences.

Day seven of Gold Coast Schoolies 2019

As we head into the final night of Gold Coast Schoolies 2019 police were pleased with the overall behaviour of the large crowd that headed into the Surfers Paradise CBD.
Overnight there were three male schoolies arrested on eight charges which were mostly in relation to public nuisance and drug possession offences.
For the same night last year (2018) there were 11 schoolies arrested.
There were no schoolies issued with liquor infringement notices.
In relation to non-schoolies overnight police arrested 3 people on 6 charges mainly for public nuisance and drug related offences.

Death investigation, Sunnybank Hills

Police investigations into the death of two people at Sunnybank Hills continues.
Police were called to a Macbeth Place home shortly after 2.30pm today (November 19) where the bodies of a man and woman were located in separate rooms of the home.
At this time the cause of death is unknown with police forensic and scientific examinations of the house continuing.
Preliminary examinations indicate the 54-year-old man and 58-year-old woman may have been deceased for some time prior to police attending today.
Post Mortem examinations are expected to be conducted tomorrow.
The pair were located deceased by their frail 89-year-old mother who lived with them at this address. She managed to alert neighbours who called Triple Zero (000). She has been transported to hospital for assessment.
As a ‘sudden death’ investigation police declared a crime scene at the house to assist with their forensic examinations and detectives from Acacia Ridge Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating.
