Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP yesterday joined Commissioner Ian Stewart in officially opening the new Brisbane City Police Station at 16 Mary Street.
Servicing the Brisbane CBD and inner-city suburbs including Spring Hill, Milton, Paddington, Red Hill and Kelvin Grove, officers of the Brisbane City Station work tirelessly to keep locals, commuters and tourists safe.
Minister Ryan said the opening of this new station epitomised the continued commitment of the Queensland Police Service and the Queensland Government to keeping policing facilities at the highest standard.
“New constructions such as this are vital for police to continue to provide excellent policing services to the community,” Minister Ryan said.

Break and enter charges, Gold Coast
Detectives have charged five men after investigations into the alleged burglaries and thefts from Gold Coast businesses over the last two days which saw damage to property worth tens of thousands of dollars.
Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch with the assistance of detectives from Ipswich executed a search warrant at Redbank Plains following a series of offences where it will be alleged the men forced access to coin-operated washing machines at Gold Coast laundromats.
It will be further alleged that a search of a motor vehicle linked the offences and police located coin boxes from the machines, dangerous drugs (methamphetamines (ICE), cannabis) drug utensils and tokens from other coins operated businesses.
As a result, a 26-year-old Yatala man has been charged with attempted enter dwelling with intent, possession of house breaking implements, possession tainted property, possession of drug utensils and possession of dangerous drugs.

Abduction investigation charges, Biloela
Detectives have charged a woman after a five-year-old girl was allegedly abducted from Biloela yesterday.
It will be alleged the girl was taken from Malakoff Street and, as a result, police declared an Amber Alert.
The child was located safe after a member of the public alerted police after seeing the amber alert and noticing the vehicle in the Calliope area around 7pm.
A 24-year-old Emerald woman has been charged with one count each of abduction, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving whilst unregistered and holder of a class C learner licence failure to comply with requirements.
She is due to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court today.

Grievous bodily harm charge, Bundaberg
Police have charged a man after a woman was allegedly assaulted with a metal bar in Bundaberg yesterday.
It will be alleged officers were called to Quinlan Street in Kepnock around 5.45pm following reports of a disturbance.
Upon arrival police located a 45-year-old woman with severe head injuries.
She was transported to Bundaberg Base Hospital in a serious condition.
Police arrested a 21-year-old Kepnock man at the scene who is known to the woman.
It is alleged he struck her a number of times with a metal bar following a disagreement.
The man has been charged with grievous bodily harm and is due to appear in Bundaberg Magistrates Court today.

Fatal traffic crash, Winchester
Two people sadly lost their lives in a three-vehicle crash near Winchester this afternoon.
Around 4.05pm a crash involving a truck and two utilities occurred on the Peak Downs Highway, near Logan Creek at Winchester.
Preliminary information indicates the truck and one of the utilities collided head-on.
The driver of the truck, a 47-year-old man from Emerald died at the scene.
The driver of one of the utilities, a 48-year-old woman from Moranbah died at the scene.
The female driver of the second utility sustained minor injuries.
Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit are continuing with officers appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, or has dash cam vision, to contact them.

Police officer stood down South Eastern Region
A 44-year-old male senior sergeant from South Eastern Region has been stood down from official duty with the Queensland Police Service and will be tasked to perform non-operational duties.
The officer is subject of an investigation into allegations of inappropriate workplace conduct including sexual harassment.

Cross border traffic operation, Goondiwindi
Queensland Police, in conjunction with New South Wales Police conducted a cross border traffic operation codenamed Operation Northmore focusing on vehicles travelling between the two states through border towns.
The operation targeted impaired driving (drug and drink driving), as well as life-endangering offences such as speeding and failure to wear seatbelts.
During the five-day operation, which ran from March 8 to 12, static intercept sites were set-up on the Cunningham and Leichhardt highways at Goondiwindi, and another site at Iveragh by officers from Road Policing Commands – Road Policing Task Force.
Approximately 300 vehicles were stopped with 121 roadside drug tests performed with seven drivers testing positive.
Police issued 30 notice to appears to heavy vehicle drivers for a range of offences including failing to keep a work diary and non-compliance with dimensions.

Officers appointed to commissioned rank
On Tuesday, March 12 Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP, joined Commissioner Ian Stewart in congratulating officers who were presented with appointment certificates in the commissioned officer ranks.
A commissioned rank in the QPS is Inspector and above.
This appointment is an important milestone in an officer’s career and comes after demonstrating a wide range of job functions in both operational and corporate areas of the Service.
Superintendent Peter Brewer and Josef Jaramazovic received their Certificates of Appointment along with eight Inspectors.
Commissioner Stewart said today’s presentation acknowledged the hard work, dedication and leadership these officers had demonstrated throughout their careers.

Armed robbery, Durack
Detectives are investigating the armed robbery of tavern in Durack overnight.
Just before midnight two men, both armed with knives, entered the business on Inala Avenue.
The men demanded money from staff members before fleeing the tavern with a sum of cash and bottles of alcohol.
The men were last seen running towards Treeline Place.
No one was physically injured during the robbery.
One man is described as approximately 191cm tall, of a slim build, and wearing a balaclava, a navy-blue Nike hoodie with dark blue pants and white sneakers.
The other man is described as approximately 183cm tall, of a heavy build and wearing a balaclava, dark blue jumper and blue pants.
Both men are described as Pacific Islander in appearance.

Armed robbery, Marsden
Detectives are investigating after an armed robbery at a tobacconist in Marsden this evening.
Just after 6pm a man entered the business on Chambers Flat Road, armed with a knife.
The man demanded money from a female staff member before fleeing the store on foot.
The man was last seen riding a bicycle south, along Chambers Flat Road.
No one was physically injured during the robbery.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 187cm tall, is of a slim build and was last seen wearing a grey hooded jumper and a balaclava.
