Operation Romeo Deckle, Avondale

Police from Bundaberg conducted a joint operation with officers from Queensland Boating and Fisheries in Avondale today.
Operation Romeo Deckle, a traffic enforcement and education operation, was conducted from 8am to 3pm on Rosedale Road.
Local police were pleased that of the 863 roadside breath tests conducted, no drivers were found to be over the legal limit. Unfortunately of the 54 roadside drug tests conducted, three drivers returned positive tests which have now been sent off for further analysis. Several traffic infringement notices were also issued.
Compliance checks of weight and seizing of crabs were conducted by Bundaberg Fisheries officers.
With the Australia Day weekend nearly upon us, local police would like to remind the community that they will be out in force to ensure the safety of all motorists.

Police bust alleged drug trafficking syndicate in Townsville

Police have charged five people and seized drugs, cash and weapons as part of an operation targeting a drug trafficking syndicate in North Queensland.
Detectives from the Major & Organised Crime Squad based in Townsville arrested two women on Sunday afternoon as part of Operation Quebec Panama.
The women were arrested in a cafe car park at Mutarnee around 3pm where officers allegedly located a large quantity of ice and more than $15,000 in cash in a vehicle.
Detectives subsequently executed search warrants at addresses in Ingham and Townsville where they allegedly seized a quantity of ice, cannabis, drug utensils and a set of knuckledusters.
A 53-year-old Ingham woman was charged with five offences including possessing, supplying and trafficking dangerous drugs as well as possessing property obtained from trafficking drugs.

Dangerous driving charges, Kallangur

Police have charged two men after they allegedly drove a stolen vehicle at a police car in Kallangur yesterday.
It will be alleged at 2pm a Mazda utility attended a residence in Tarong Drive at Northlakes and three men have removed a glass window to access the house. The owner of the house, who was away, was alerted by his home security system and contacted police.
The men have stolen a red Lotus coupe from the garage and left with the Mazda utlilty. Police located both vehicles in Wallarah Parade and one man from the Mazda ran into bushland whilst the driver has got into the Lotus. The driver of the Lotus has then reversed into the police vehicle before driving away at speed.
The man who allegedly ran from the utility was located nearby.
Police located the Lotus abandoned a short time later in Monarch Court at Kallangur.

Serious traffic crash, Deeral

A woman is in a serious condition after a single vehicle crash south of Gordonvale overnight.
Around 8.15pm a Toyota Starlet was headed north of the Bruce Highway then the vehicle has left the road and hit a pole.
A female passenger in her twenties was airlifted to the Cairns Hospital in a critical condition.
The driver and other passenger, both also women in their twenties, were taken to Cairns Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Update 4 – Homicide, Kelvin Grove

Detectives investigating the death of a 33-year-old man at Kelvin Grove on Friday are appealing for public assistance to locate important evidence believed to be dumped in the area.
The man’s body was discovered at a Hunter Street address around 3pm on January 18.
Three men have since appeared in court charged with his murder.
Investigators are appealing for residents in the Kelvin Grove and Herston area to be on the lookout for a distinctive Ralph Lauren t-shirt (pictured) as well as footwear and a mask or balaclava which is believed to have been discarded after the incident.
Police and SES crews searched the area today, finding some pieces of evidence in a rubbish bin, yard and car port.
Detective Acting Inspector Chris Toohey appealed to residents to check their rubbish bins and properties to assist with the investigation.

Police and firies investigate suspicious Bribie Island bushfire

Police and officers from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) investigating this weekend’s bushfire on Bribie Island have deemed the cause of the blaze suspicious.
Shortly after midday on January 17, a multi-agency local and state government response was initiated after authorities were alerted to a bushfire off Hornsby Road at Bellara.
Warm northerly winds fanned the fire which spread through the National Park.
On Friday, the fire came close to Banksia Beach State School and the Community Arts Centre.
Firefighting assets successfully protected these facilities and Sunderland Drive was closed for periods of time due to smoke and fire hazard.
QFES Incident Controller Graham Quinn said crews worked tirelessly over the weekend to bring the fire under control, and it was a fantastic result no properties or local assets were lost.
“We’d also like to thank the community for their support, generosity and understanding during the incident,” Mr Quinn said.

Drug arrests, Halifax and Cordelia

Police have charged a man with various drug offences following raids on a number of residences in Cordelia and Halifax this week.
Officers from Halifax Police Station executed a number of search warrants on addresses with the assistance of a drug detection dog from Townsville following information provided by members of the public through Crime Stoppers.
During these searches police located a quantity of dangerous drugs including cannabis and methylamphetamine (ice) along with utensils used in connection with smoking, supplying and possessing dangerous drugs.
Police also seized restricted items under the Weapons Act including numchaku, a sling shot and a replica handgun which contained a live round of ammunition in the barrel.
A 41-year-old man has been charged with under the Explosive Act for unlawful possession of ammunition, Weapons Act for possession of restricted items, and Drugs Misuse Act for possession of utensils and dangerous drugs.

‘School Watch’ – Look, Listen, Report

With school holidays coming to an end, returning to school is always an exciting time for our students and community.
In the weeks prior to returning to school however, empty schools provide an opportunity for criminal activity – becoming targets for unlawful entry, arson, stealing, graffiti and property damage offences.
All of these have the potential to delay the new school year starting off.
The School Watch Program is a partnership between the Department of Education and the Queensland Police Service (Protective Services).
The program aims to reduce criminal activity in Queensland schools and encourages everyone to look out for after-hours crime in our schools.
If you see anything suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene. Instead, call the School Watch number of 13 17 88. If you see a crime in progress, please call Triple Zero (000).

Update 3 – Homicide, Kelvin Grove

Detectives investigating the death of Robert Frescons have charged two more men with murder overnight.
Police were called to an address on Hunter Street around 3pm and the body of a man was discovered.
A 21-year old man was arrested and charged yesterday with one count of murder.
Two other men, a 23-year-old Broadbeach man and a 29-year-old St Lucia man were charged overnight with one count each of murder each.
The trio are all due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning.

Update 2: Homicide, Kelvin Grove

An arrest has been made by officers attached to Operation Romeo Chariot – a homicide investigation launched following the death of a man at Kelvin Grove on Friday afternoon.
Detectives from the Brisbane City Criminal Investigation Branch this morning arrested a 21-year-old Broadbeach man and subsequently charged him with murder.
This follows the discovery of the body of 33-year-old Robert Frescon by members of his family at his home on Hunter Street around 3pm on January 18.
A post mortem examination was conducted today, which confirmed Mr Frescon died as a result of a wound to his neck.
A number of people are continuing to assist police with their enquiries.
The 22-year-old is scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
Investigations are continuing.
