QPS and RACQ unite to prevent motorcycle theft in Brisbane City
Today, the Queensland Police Service and RACQ launched a joint initiative to help prevent motorcycles being stolen.
Between 2012 and 2017, 232 motorcycles were stolen within Brisbane alone; 96% of those motorcycles stolen were not fitted with a security device.
The Stop Stolen Motorcycles initiative aims to provide awareness to riders on current security options available to them and crime prevention strategies they can implement to protect their motorcycles from being stolen.
On average only 48% of the stolen motorcycles from the Brisbane area were partially recovered.
In a lot of instances the stolen motorcycles were taken apart and stolen for their parts.
Together, the Brisbane City District Crime Prevention Unit and RACQ will incorporate educational material and a social media presence to remind riders to take security precautions.
Of the 232 motorbikes reported stolen over the six-year period, 116 (50%) were taken from parking bays, 108 (47%) were taken from a residence and eight (3%)
QPS fixes banning notice error
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has resolved a technical issue which impacted some banning notice information.
The QPS is responsible for the transfer of banned person data to the ID scanner network introduced for relevant premises in Safe Night Precincts.
Ongoing monitoring of data quality identified on November 8 that some banning orders had prematurely expired on a QPS system.
The issue has since been fixed and no further instances of premature expiry of banning notice data have occurred.
As of December 5 there are 857 active banning notices on the QPS system.
A QPS analysis has revealed that banned person information for 116 people had prematurely expired between September 29 and November 22.
Of those 116 people, two were detected within an SNP (not within licensed premises) for offences during the period in which they were banned.
The initial offences related to public nuisance and obstruct police in one instance and stealing in the other matter.
