Armed robbery charges, Maroochydore

Police have charged two people following an armed robbery at a shopping centre in Maroochydore overnight.
At around 8:20pm a woman was approached by a group of people as she approached her vehicle in the car park of the shopping centre on Horton Parade.
It will be alleged a woman produced a knife and sprayed the car owner in the face with a can of deodorant, before stealing the vehicle and fleeing the scene.
Officers responded and located the car on Plaza Parade a short time later.
A 20-year-old Bli Bli woman and an 18-year-old Bli Bli woman have both been charged with armed robbery in company, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stupefying in order to commit an indictable offence.
They are due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
Investigations are continuing.

Homicide investigation, Mossman

Detectives investigating the suspicious death of a man at Mossman have charged a 27-year-old man with murder.
Around 9.50am on Tuesday, police were called to reports a Holden Rodeo utility was on fire on the Mossman – Mount Molloy Road.
Investigations revealed the owner of the ute, a 38-year-old Mossman man, had last been seen by a family member on October 17.
An investigation centre was established as part of Operation Quebec Velar with Homicide, Tableland, Cairns and Mossman detectives looking into the circumstances of the man’s disappearance.
This afternoon, the remains of a man were located on a property at Killaloe, South Mossman.
A 27-year old Mossman man was tonight arrested and charged with one count of murder.
He is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

Update – Serious assault investigation, Broadbeach Waters

Detectives investigating the violent assault of a man outside a cabaret restaurant in Broadbeach Waters earlier this month have released CCTV images of four men who can assist with their inquiries.
The 49-year-old man was walking on Hooker Boulevard shortly before 11pm on Saturday, October 6 when he was approached from behind and unexpectedly assaulted by a number of men.
The victim was hit several times in the face and head causing him to fall over where he was kicked a number of times to the head.
At which point the men fled on foot east along hooker boulevard towards Broadbeach.
The victim was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since returned to his home interstate.
Investigators have released CCTV images of four men seen in the area of Hooker Boulevard around the time of the attack and have encouraged them to make contact with police.

Update: Hit and run, Kingston

Police are appealing for public assistance to identify a motorbike pictured in CCTV stills after a young boy was injured during a hit and run in Kingston yesterday.
Preliminary information suggests the 5-year-old boy and a 31-year-old woman were crossing Juers Street near Attunga Street shortly after 4.30pm when a motorbike travelled through a red light and collided with the boy.
The boy sustained a minor head injury as well as fractures to his leg and ankle as a result of the collision.
He was transported to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
The motorbike is described as possibly red in colour.
Police are urging anyone who may recognise the motorbike shown in the images or have dash cam vision of the area at the time of the incident to come forward.

Man charged with historical sex offences against children – North Brisbane.

As part of Operation Quebec Reef, detectives from North Brisbane CIB South and the Child Abuse and Sexual Crime Group executed a search warrant today at a Sandgate address.
Detectives subsequently charged a 55-year-old Sandgate man with historical offences relating to four child victims, with the incidents allegedly occurring in the North Brisbane area between 1991 to 2005.
Police believe the man previously worked in the Clayfield, Virginia and Nudgee areas as a swimming and triathlon coach.
The 55-year-old man has been charged with one count of rape, twelve counts of indecent dealing with a child under the age of 16, three counts of procuring child to commit an indecent act and one count of common assault.
The man is to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Illegal prostitution charges, Maroochydore

A raid on a business in Maroochydore yesterday has resulted in three people being charged in relation to unlawful prostitution allegedly being carried out on the Sunshine Coast.
Detectives from the Sunshine Coast District Criminal Investigation Branch and the State Crime Command Prostitution Enforcement Taskforce executed a search warrant at a property on Sugar Road as part of Operation Quebec Dame.
As a result a 52-year-old man and two women aged 23 and 29 were arrested.
It will be alleged the premises was operating falsely under the guise of a massage parlour and that police identified a number of women as having recently worked there unlawfully.
A 51-year-old Mount Coolum man has been charged with two counts of knowingly participate in the provision of prostitution and one count each of knowingly carrying on the business of providing unlawful prostitution and having an interest in premises uses for the purposes of prostitution.

Update – Shooting incident, Currimundi

Two men have been arrested following the alleged shooting of a man in the carpark of a Currimundi shopping centre on October 19.
Yesterday with the assistance of Victoria Police Taskforce Echo detectives a search warrant was executed on a residence in Saint Albans, Victoria in relation to the incident and the men, aged 56 and 26, were taken into custody.
It is alleged that on October 19 an altercation occurred in the carpark of Currimundi Marketplace between three men.
Two men were then seen leaving the carpark in a sedan.
A short time later a 45-year-old man presented to a Battery Hill medical centre with a gunshot wound to the abdomen before being transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
The two Queensland men will face Melbourne Magistrates Court this morning before detectives from Sunshine Coast District Criminal Investigation Branch and Organised Crime Gangs Group fly to

Arson investigation, Belmont

Police are appealing for witnesses following a suspicious fire which destroyed a house in Belmont yesterday morning.
Emergency services were called to the blaze just before 8.30 am at the older style Queenslander home on Old Cleveland Road which had been operating as a business.
No one was inside the residence at the time of the fire, which completely destroyed the property.
Police are treating the blaze as suspicious and are appealing for anyone who may have been in the vicinity at the time of the incident to come forward.
Anyone who may have been travelling along Old Cleveland Road or Boston Road and have dash-cam vision is also urged to contact police.

Hit and run, Kingston

Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorbike travelled through a red light and struck a young boy on a pedestrian crossing before leaving the scene in Kingston this afternoon.
Preliminary information suggests the 5-year-old boy and a 31-year-old woman were crossing Juers Street near Attunga Street shortly after 4.30pm when the motorbike travelled around a car stationary at the red light and collided with the boy.
The motorbike then continued to drive away westbound on Juers Street.
The boy sustained a minor head injury as well as fractures to his leg and ankle as a result of the collision.
He was transported to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
The motorbike is described as possibly red in colour.
Police are urging for anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area at the time of the incident or further information about the motorbike to come forward.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
