Robberies with violence, South Brisbane

Police have charged seven juveniles following two violent robberies in South Brisbane early this morning.
It will be alleged that shortly after 2am, a group of youths approached a 22-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man on Manning Street and made demands for money.
It is further alleged the group assaulted the pair, striking the man several times with a fence paling and repeatedly punching the woman before stealing money and fleeing.
Around 2.15am, it is alleged the group approached a 38-year-old man on Grey Street and punched him several times before attempting to steal his bag.
The youths fled on foot and were arrested by police a short time later in Kurilpa Park.
The 22-year-old woman, 20-year-old man, and 38-year-old man sustained bruising and were treated at the scene.

Woman forced from car, Townsville

Detectives are investigating a robbery that occurred in Cranbrook last night where a woman had her car and stolen after she was forced from it.
Initial inquiries indicate at about 8.20pm the 45-year-old woman and three children arrived at the front gate of her property on Fitzroy Street.
One of children got out to open the gate when a man has approached the driver’s side of the car, opened the door and demanded the woman get out.
The man forced himself into the driver’s seat on top of the woman and attempted to reverse the car, at the same time the remaining two children exited the car.
The woman fought with the man for a short time before being forced out of the moving car.
The man drove off in the silver Mitsubishi ASX heading down Fitzroy Street towards Charles Street.

Serious traffic crash, Gatton

Police are investigating a serious traffic crash at Gatton.
Around 2.40pm on Wednesday, officers were called to South Street following reports of a single vehicle into a power pole.
Initial investigations indicate the Ford Falcon sedan went out of control and hit the power pole causing significant damage to the vehicle.
The driver, a 24-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious condition.
A 25-year-old man who was a passenger in the vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
Police are appealing with witnesses to contact them if they have not yet done so and are also appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the vehicle before the incident.
Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit continue.

Don’t drop the ball, secure your vehicle

Police Minister Mark Ryan and Brisbane Region Acting Assistant Commission Brian Wilkins today launched a three-part crime prevention video series featuring local Bayside resident Wally Lewis to help reduce motor vehicle offences in the community.
The first instalment focuses on vehicle security; an effective measure that only takes a few seconds and helps prevent thefts from and theft of vehicles.
In 2017, approximately 4,100 thefts from vehicles were reported in the South Brisbane District.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Wilkins urged members of the community to secure their vehicles when leaving them unattended, even when parked at home.
“A reduction in crime can be achieved by preventative methods being adopted by the community that help stop offences from happening in the first place,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Wilkins said.
“Locking your vehicle doors and ensuring all windows are closed are basic, yet effective security measures to reduce the chance of having your vehicle broken into.”

Revocation of suspension- Police officer Southern Region

A 41-year-old male Senior Sergeant from Southern Region who was suspended with pay from official duty with the Queensland Police Service on 11 August 2017 will now return to operational duties following the revocation of the suspension.
The officer was the subject of criminal charges before a District Court.  This matter has now been finalised as the charges were withdrawn by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Wounding investigation, Gympie

Gympie detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a 31-year-old man who presented himself to the Gympie Hospital around 8pm Tuesday with suspected gunshot wounds.
A black 2005 Toyota Camry with damage consistent with a gunshot round was located in in a carpark opposite the hospital. The vehicle has been declared as a crime scene.
The man has not made a complaint at this stage.
Investigations are continuing.

Weapons charges, Bundaberg

Police have charged a man following their investigations into an armed robbery incident at Wharf Drive, Burnett Heads last Monday, April 9.
It will be alleged that at 3.15pm, three males confronted two men who were fishing at the location and demanded they hand over the keys to their vehicle.
The two men have refused and a physical altercation has ensued, resulting in the discharge of a firearm.
Both men sustained non-life-threatening injuries to their legs and were transported to Bundaberg Base Hospital for treatment.
A 26-year-old Innes Park man has been charged with two counts of unlawful wounding and one count each of unlawful possession of a weapon and dangerous conduct with a weapon.
The man was remanded in custody to re-appear before the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on April 18.
Investigations are continuing.

Update: Fatal house fire, Everton Hills

Police are appealing for public assistance as investigations continue into a fatal house fire at Everton Hills this morning.
Initial investigations suggest at 5.40am, neighbours heard an explosion occur on Pavonia Street.
Emergency Services responded to the scene where they observed a house engulfed by flames.
Three people were pronounced deceased at the scene including two women and a man.
Members of the public who may have CCTV or dashcam footage are being encouraged to contact police.
Officers are also urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious within the vicinity of Pavonia Street between 5.30pm April 16 and 5.30am today to contact police.
Investigations are continuing.

Unlawful use of a motor vehicle, West Mackay

Three teenage boys have been charged after a vehicle was allegedly stolen and driven through the fence of a business in West Mackay on Sunday Night.
It will be alleged on April 15 around 10pm a group of people entered a car yard on Holland Street and stole the keys to a vehicle.
The group then allegedly entered the vehicle and used it to ram a gate of the business before driving out onto Hume Street.
Police conducting patrols of the area observed the broken gates of the business on the road and commenced an investigation.
Three teenagers have since been arrested in relation to the matter.
A 16-year-old Mackay boy and a 14-year-old Andergrove boy have both been charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of wilful damage, stealing and enter premises and commit indictable offence.

Wilful damage, Southbank

Police have released CCTV vision and images of a group of people who may be able to assist with an investigation into a wilful damage incident at the Southbank parklands on April 14.
Between 12.10am and 12.20am, three people approached the Commonwealth Games countdown clock.
The fibreglass surfboard clock was then set on fire and sustained moderate damage.
The trio then left the scene and walked in an easterly direction through the parklands towards the Lady Cilento Hospital.
At least two of the people are females, Caucasian in appearance, with one having pink hair and glasses.
Police believe another member of the group is a male, Aboriginal in appearance.
If anyone recognises the people in the CCTV and images, or knows of their whereabouts, then they are encouraged to contact Police.
