Serious quad bike crash, Ayr

Police are investigating after a woman sustained critical injuries in a quad bike crash near Ayr last night.
Preliminary information suggests three quad bikes carrying five people were travelling together along Old Home Hill Road through Mcdesme around 8.30pm when one of the vehicles flipped over, causing the driver and passenger to fall off.
The female passenger, a 22-year-old Ayr woman, sustained serious head injures and was transported to Ayr Hospital before being airlifted to Townsville where she remains in a critical condition.
The 23-year-old male driver from Home Hill was not seriously injured in the crash.
Police attended the scene and the 22-year-old driver of one of the accompanying quad bikes was charged with drink driving, not wearing a helmet, driving unregistered and driving unlicensed.
The third driver, a 21-year-old Ayr man, was also charged with drink driving.
Both men are due to appear in Ayr Magistrates Court on August 17.

Serious traffic crash, Yarrabah

Police are investigating a serious, single vehicle traffic crash in Yarrabah this afternoon.
At 5.20pm, a vehicle was travelling on Bukki Road when it left the roadway and crashed into a tree.
The male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was airlifted to the Cairns Hospital with serious head injuries.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Investigations are ongoing.

Update 2 – Wounding, Waterford West

A man has been charged with murder following investigations into an alleged stabbing incident at Waterford West last night.
Police were called to a unit block on Bourke Street at 8.15pm following reports a man had sustained a wound.
A 32-year-old Beachmere man was located inside one of the units with a serious injury to his abdomen.
He was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition where he later died.
A 45-year-old Waterford West man has since been charged with murder and will face Beenleigh Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Scooter theft, Coolum Beach

Sunshine Coast detectives are seeking assistance to identify a man who stole a motorbike outside a surf club at Coolum last week.
Prior to this, the man attempted to steal a car from a residence on First Avenue at Coolum Beach, just after 3:30pm on Saturday, May 9.
The man was confronted by the residents and ran from the area.
Just after 4pm, the man attended the surf club on David Low Way where he stole a silver 2015 Suzuki UK110 bearing Queensland registration 095QU. It was parked outside.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, of a solid build with short dark hair. He is also described as having New Zealand accent and wearing a black shirt and shorts at the time.
Anyone with information that could identify the man, or the whereabouts of the scooter, is urged to contact police.

Stolen vehicle crashes into house, Kirwan

A teenager is in custody and three other youths remain outstanding after a stolen vehicle crashed into a property in Kirwan this morning.
Police will allege at 6.20am a stolen grey Holden Commodore sedan has crashed into a home on Tapiolas Street.
Four youths were seen running from the vehicle.
Neighbours who witnessed the incident held one of the youths until police arrived.
The teenage boy was taken into custody by police without incident and he was taken to Townsville University Hospital for examination.
No injuries were sustained by the occupants of the property.
Police are seeking assistance from members of the public who may have witnessed this incident or have any information to contact police.

Police located a 45-year-old man inside one of the other units and he was taken into custody.
It will be alleged there was a verbal altercation between the two men outside the complex before the 32-year-old was stabbed with a knife.
The 45-year-old man was charged with with acts intended to maim and is due to face Beenleigh Magistrates Court today.
Police will now consider further charges in relation to this incident.
Investigations are continuing.

Break and enters – Gold Coast

Police are investigating a break and enter at a supermarket and an attempted break and enter at a service station at Upper Coomera in the early hours of this morning.
Around 1.30am an attempt was made to gain entry to a closed service station at Commercial Street by trying to smash the front glass doors. No entry was able to be gained and nothing was stolen.
Then at 1.50am entry was gained to a Reserve Road supermarket by smashing a glass window at the front of the store. A quantity of cigarettes was then stolen from a glass window display that had been broken open.
Detectives are presently investigating links between these two offences.
Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in these areas around the time of the incident is urged to contact police.

Police liaison officer suspended, Northern Region

A 60-year-old police liaison officer (PLO) from Northern Region has been suspended from the Queensland Police Service.
The officer is subject to allegations of sexual misconduct and has been served with a Notice to Appear in the Thursday Island Magistrates Court in relation to an offence pursuant to section 227A Observation or recordings in breach of privacy of the Criminal Code.

Battery theft, Gold Coast

Police have arrested five people alleged to have stolen large quantities of deep cycle batteries from Gold Coast mobile phone towers with the intent of selling them to unsuspecting consumers.
Between January and May of this year, mobile phone towers for all the major telcos have been targeted by thieves looking for the batteries.
Collectively the companies have reported up to $125,000 worth of batteries being taken, with some of the sites allegedly raided on multiple occasions.
Deep cycle batteries are mobile phone tower locations as a backup power source in the event of a mains power outage.
The batteries have been advertised for sale on social media sites and primarily purchased by people living from an alternative a power source such as solar or wind, as well those wanting an extended power supply on camping trips.
