Armed robbery Merrimac

Police are investigating the armed robbery of a service station at Merrimac in the early hours of this morning.
Around 12.18am three masked males have entered the Gooding Drive service station armed with a hammer and a wrench. Once inside the 38-year-old female store employee has retreated to a back area and one of the males has jumped the counter and removed the cash drawer.
While the offenders were inside the premises the front glass doors automatically locked causing one of the males to use the hammer to smash the glass door to get out of the service station.
No one was physically injured during the incident.

Break and enters – Gold Coast

Police are investigating break and enters on five chemists and one newsagency on the Gold Coast overnight that are believed to be linked.
In each instance offenders attempted to or smashed their way through glass doors to gain entry to the premises.
Between 2.30am and 4.30am chemists at Lae Drive Runaway Bay, Brisbane Road at Biggera Waters, Musgrave Avenue at Southport, Ashmore Road at Benowa, Olsen Avenue at Parkwood and a newsagency at Ashmore Road at Benowa were all targeted.
In some instances medication was stolen by two to three males.
Police believe the males may have been travelling in a small black sedan.
Investigations are ongoing.

Penalty infringement notices for breaches of Chief Health Officer’s directives

Queensland police now have the option to issue on the spot fines for breaches of Chief Health Officer (CHO) directions to support community efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
An integral part of the Queensland Police Service’s (QPS) response is to ensure compliance with directions particularly around self-isolation, mass gathering, borders, non-essential business activity and now private residence gatherings.
From yesterday, officers now have the option of issuing infringement notices in appropriate circumstances.
Under the direction, homeowners or persons in control of a residence must not allow more than ten people to be present at the residence at any one time and to take reasonable steps to encourage occupants of and visitors to the residence to practise social distancing as much as possible.
This does not apply if more than ten people are present who ordinarily live at the residence.

Assault investigation, Kingston

A crime scene has been established in Kingston after a man sustained stab wounds during an incident this afternoon.
Shortly before 3pm, police were called to an incident on Aquarius Drive after reports a 47-year-old man had been stabbed.
Two men were seen leaving the area in a car a short time later.
The man has been transported to the Princess Alexandra hospital in a critical condition.

Siege, Cairns

A man has been shot by police this afternoon following a siege near Cairns today.
Around 4:30am, the man allegedly attempted to break into an infrastructure facility off the Captain Cook Highway at Palm Cove.
The man was disturbed by a nearby resident and left the scene. As the man was leaving in his car, he deliberately collided with a police vehicle attending the incident.
Officers immediately requested further assistance and multiple crews responded.
A short time later at Smithfield the man allegedly deliberately veered towards a police officer on the side of the road.
As a result, a 26-year-old constable suffered a suspected broken wrist and other non-life-threatening injuries.
The man’s vehicle stopped on the Captain Cook Highway at Yorkeys Knob where he allegedly set it on fire.
As police approached, the man allegedly produced a firearm and discharged a shot towards officers prior to running from his vehicle.

Update – Armed robbery, Oakey

Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch detectives have arrested and charged a 22-year old Oakey man with armed robbery, enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence and contravene direction.
The man has been refused police bail and is expected to appear before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court in relation to these matters tomorrow.

Police officer injured, Southport

Detectives are appealing for information after a police officer was injured at Southport overnight.
Just after 11:30pm last night, police attended a service station on Olsen Road when they noticed a group of people behaving suspiciously inside a parked car.
A 48-year-old male senior constable has approached the vehicle to investigate the suspicious activity between the five occupants when the driver reversed into the officer.
He was knocked to the ground, hitting his head. The officer was conveyed to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The silver Ford Falcon failed to stop and left the service station along Olsen Avenue.
Anyone who has information on the silver Ford Falcon, bearing false Queensland registration plates 268 GYZ, is urged to contact police.

Fatal traffic crash, Burpengary

Police are investigating a single vehicle traffic crash at Burpengary last night.
Preliminary inquiries indicate about 12.15am a Toyota Eco was travelling on Springfield Road when the vehicle has left the road and hit a power pole.
The driver, a 31-year-old Morayfield man who was the only occupant of the car, died at the scene.
Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Serious traffic crash, Hillcrest

A man remains in a critical condition after a motorcycle crash in Hillcrest overnight.
Preliminary inquires indicate at about 8.15pm a Harley Davidson motorcycle was travelling west on Johnson Road when it has struck a concrete medium strip. The rider has lost control of the bike and hit a sign post.
A Brisbane man in his forties was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating.

Fatal crash, Coonarr (Bundaberg)

Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal traffic crash which claimed the life of an elderly man near Bundaberg this morning.
Preliminary information indicates a red Ford Falcon sedan was travelling along Palm Beach Road through Coonarr around 10am when the driver lost control and the vehicle struck a tree.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 93-year-old Avenell Heights man, suffered significant injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have been travelling in the area at the time of the crash or has dash cam vision to come forward.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
