Fatal traffic crash, Mapleton

A man has died in a two-vehicle crash on the Sunshine Coast overnight.
Initial investigations suggest around 8pm a sedan was travelling west on Obi Obi Road in Mapleton when it collided with a marked police car travelling in the opposite direction.
The 44-year-old male driver and sole occupant of the sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The male officer, who was the sole occupant of the police vehicle, was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The police vehicle was a marked Hyundai Santa Fe SUV and was routine patrolling at the time of the crash.
Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating with overview from the Ethical standard Command.

Fatal traffic crash, Carmila

Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash involving a truck and car that occurred at Carmila this morning.
Preliminary information suggests the Mazda 2 and prime mover collided on the Bruce Highway 15 kilometres south of Ilbilbie around 11am.
The male driver of the car, a 29-year-old man from Drayton, suffered significant injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The truck driver, a 52-year-old Glenlee man, was treated for minor injuries.
The Bruce Highway was closed before being reopened under traffic control.

Armed robbery with traffic crash – Brisbane and Maryborough

A man and woman have been arrested following an armed robbery in Brisbane on the weekend which culminated in a stolen vehicle crashing at Maryborough yesterday.
It is alleged on March 21, a 24-year-old man attended a carpark in Sunnybank around 6.10pm to meet with another man who he had organised to test drive his white Mercedes Benz via an online marketplace.
The two men entered the vehicle and travelled along Carnaby Street in Macgregor where the driver allegedly produced a firearm and ordered the car owner exit, leaving his keys and phone.
The 24-year-old victim complied and the man drove away in the car towards Sunnybank.
It is further alleged that on March 25 around 5.20pm police observed a male and female in the white Mercedes hatchback travelling dangerously into Maryborough.
Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle on Lennox Street however it failed to stop.

Break and enters – Gold Coast

Police are investigating four break and enters where a car was used to gain entry to four separate business premises on the Gold Coast overnight.
Around 11.50pm on March 25, a confirmed stolen vehicle was reversed into the glass doors of a liquor store at Ware Drive at Currumbin Waters. Bottles of alcohol were stolen by three men before returning to the vehicle and driving off.
Then at 12.20am on March 26, a car was again used to smash the glass doors of a liquor store at Mudgeeraba Road at Worongary where three men have entered the store and stole bottles of alcohol before leaving in the vehicle.
Just over an hour later at 1.40am a break and enter occurred at a chemist in Marble Arch Place at Arundel where the glass doors were smashed and property stolen.
Further investigations indicate between 5.50pm last night (March 25) and 8am this morning (March 26)

Serious assault of a police officer, Aitkenvale

A 42-year-old man has been charged after allegedly spitting on a police officer during a random breath test at Aitkenvale overnight.
Just after 9pm last night, police observed a red Ford Territory drive out of a hotel establishment and mount a kerb on Charters Road.
Police intercepted the vehicle and requested the 42-year-old driver to undertake a breath test.
The driver allegedly became aggressive and spat on an officer.
The man was arrested and transported to Townsville Hospital for a medical assessment.
He was subsequently charged with one count each of serious assault of a police officer, driving without a license, driving under the influence of liquor and failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis.
The Condon man was refused bail and will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today.

Operation Sierra Processor, Chinchilla

Police have charged 27 people with more than 88 offences as part of Operation Sierra Processor, targeting property crime in the Chinchilla division.
Among those arrested included a 15-year-old boy from Wilsonton Heights who has charged with 13 offences including six counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, one count each of burglary and commit indictable offence, receiving tainted property, possess tainted property, driving a motor vehicle without a licence, enter premises with intent and evasion type 1 offence.
It is alleged that between February and March the boy was involved in the theft of multiple vehicles from residences in Chinchilla, Glenvale and Harristown as well as number of burglaries.
As a result of this operation, 27 people have been charged with 88 offences including;

17 x unlawful use of a motor vehicle
13 x burglary
2 x break and enter
6 x receiving tainted property
1 x unlawful entry of a motor vehicle
8 x driving without

Police warn over coronavirus scammers targeting job seekers

The Queensland Police Financial and Cyber Crime Group are warning Queenslanders to remain vigilant to scams related to Coronavirus, or COVID-19, with one of the latest scams in circulation targeting job-seekers through fake online ads.
Queensland Police have received reports where scammers are posting legitimate-looking job ads on official jobseeker websites and asking ‘successful’ applicants for personal information as part of the application process, including:
• current residential address and phone numbers;
• personal bank details;
• tax file number;
• photocopies of passports, driver licences
usually to be uploaded via an email link or through their bogus website.
This information can be used by cybercriminals to carry out identity theft, including opening bank accounts or lines of credit in your name.
Some victims have also been asked to transfer money as part of the job application process.

Social distancing

The community is being reminded to adhere to social distancing principles and new restrictions in relation to indoor venues.
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is providing ongoing support to Queensland Health as part of a co-ordinated whole of government response to the COVID-19 situation.
A multi-agency taskforce operating under Task Force Sierra Linnet will ensure compliance with the new Chief Health Officer directions now in place for all pubs, registered and licensed clubs, gyms, indoor sporting venues, casinos and night clubs.
These measures are aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19 and ensuring overall public health and safety.
Police have certain powers under the Public Health Act 2005 (Qld) to ensure compliance with the intent of the legislation, and penalty provisions apply.

Serious assault, West End

Detectives from Dutton Park Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man following the serious assault of another man in West End early this morning.
Just after midnight a 41-year-old Highgate Hill man was allegedly assaulted on Boundary Street.
The man was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital where he remains in a critical condition with a serious head injury.
A crime scene was declared on Boundary Street between Vulture Street, Jane Street and Russell Street.
A 41-year-old West End man has been charged with Grievous Bodily Harm. He is expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow (March 24).
Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information to contact police.

Random breath tests continue following the suspension of static breath testing sites

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) continues to conduct random and targeted breath tests across the State, anywhere at any time.
The recent decision to suspend static (multi-vehicle) roadside breath and drug testing means an increase in random and targeting testing to ensure the safety of all users of Queensland road networks.
Road safety continues to be a priority with motorists urged not to drink drive and always have a ‘Plan B’.
Static testing sites have been suspended to reduce the risk of spread of COVID-19 to other community members and frontline police.
