Update – Luxury items stolen, Brisbane

A man has been charged following investigations into the alleged theft of luxury items from a Brisbane store last week.
Around 4am on Thursday, February 13, a stolen white BMW wagon was driven into the Queen Street shop front causing damage to the doors.
Whilst inside the store, it will be alleged one of the men stole several luxury items.
A 49-year-old Browns Plains man has been charged with enter premises to commit an indictable offence and appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court today. He is due to reappear on March 16.
Investigations continue.

Burglary, Redlynch

Detectives are investigating the burglary of two stores at a Redlynch shopping centre this morning.
Preliminary information indicates shortly before 4.00am, two masked people used a silver Hyundai Elantra SUV to smash their way into front glass doors of the Larsen Road shopping centre.
The pair have then exited the vehicle and smashed their way into a nearby liquor store and tobacconist, located within the centre.
The pair subsequently stole a quantity of stock from inside both stores before fleeing in another vehicle later found dumped.
Investigators believe a third vehicle was also involved.
Investigations continue.

Armed robbery and dangerous operation of vehicle, Townsville

Police have charged a teenage girl and are appealing for information following an alleged armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle last night in Townsville.
Overnight on Friday (14) and Saturday (15) a Mazda sedan was allegedly stolen from a Mount Low address during a break-in.
Shortly before 6pm last night (February 16) it will be alleged the occupants of the stolen Mazda threw objects from their vehicle at another motorist, a man driving a dual cab.
Police will allege the driver chased the stolen Mazda from Aitkenvale to Townsville before crashing into the rear of the Mazda in Stanley Street at around 7.30pm, causing it to stop.
The four occupants of the Mazda, all believed to be juveniles, fled on foot.
Police attended the crash scene and arrested a 17-year-old girl, an alleged passenger in the stolen Mazda.

Fatal unit fire, Townsville

Police are investigating the circumstances of a fire at a Cranbrook unit block overnight.
Shortly before midnight, emergency services were called to a fire engulfing a unit on Orchid Street.
Forensic testing will be undertaken today to formally identify a body which was located in the unit.
Two other units within the complex were damaged as a result of the fire’s spread; however, no other residents were injured.
A crime scene has been declared as investigations continue to determine the cause of the fire.

Fatal traffic crash, Ayr

A 23-year-old man has died following a traffic crash at Ayr overnight.
Just after midnight, police and emergency services were called to a single vehicle crash on Beach Road near Lilliesmere Court.
Initial investigations indicate a Kia Cerato has left the road and crashed into a powerpole on the opposite side of the road.
The 23-year-old driver and sole occupant of the car died at the scene.
Officers from the Forensic Crash Unit are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Revoked – PSPA Talgai

An emergency declaration made under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) at Talgai was revoked at 5pm today.
Affected residents are permitted to return to their properties however are not permitted to do so via the closed roads.
Council are advising all affected property owners.
Closed roads remain under council control and police patrols of closed roads will continue to ensure community safety.

Disturbance, Indooroopilly

Police are appealing for information in relation to the behaviour of a man causing a disturbance at Taringa and Indooroopilly this morning.
Shortly after 8am officers were called to Morrow Street in Taringa following concerns from members of the public about a man armed with a knife and making verbal threats towards passing motorists.
Prior to police arriving, a number of calls were received about the same armed man disrupting traffic on Station Road at Indooroopilly.
The man was arrested a short time later without incident.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who observed the man described as Caucasian, aged between 30 and 40, with no shirt, beige shorts and joggers around 8am, to contact police.
Police would also like to hear from motorists travelling in those areas from 8am with dashcam footage.
Investigations are continuing.

Armed robbery, Redbank Plains

Police are investigating the armed robbery of a convenience store in Redbank Plains late last night.
Just after 11pm, three people entered the business on Alawoona Street, one armed with a meat cleaver and another with a knife.
One of the three punched a glass panel of the front door causing it to smash and cut the 19-year-old male store attendant’s face.
The trio then removed cash from the register and tobacco products before demanding the attendant open the safe and removing more money.
They then drove away along School Road.
The 19-year-old attendant was taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment to a laceration.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

Update: Emergency declaration, Talgai

An emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) remains in place as a dam at Talgai continues to leak.
Assessments of the dam’s integrity has been conducted throughout the day with no serious breach of the dam wall detected.
Residences within the declaration area will remain evacuated until the threat eases. Roads also remain closed.
Police are working with relevant authorities to ensure all precautions to ensure community safety are undertaken.
Members of the public are urged to remain clear of the declaration area.

Emergency declaration, Talgai

Police made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) in relation to a dam leak in Talgai at 10.40pm last night, after the dam began leaking water.
The affected area is bounded by Hendon Victoria Hill Road, Warwick Allora Road, Pratten Road and Yankee Gully Road.
Overnight seven properties were door knocked by police and all residents were evacuated who hadn’t already self-evacuated. A further five properties have been door knocked this morning with occupants self-evacuating.
The Queensland Police Service and emergency services are working with dam engineers to ensure all precautions have been taken.
All potentially affected residents have been evacuated for their own safety.
Engineers have met with the dam’s owners this morning and the QPS is working with the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, Southern Downs Regional Council, engineers and property owners to manage and monitor the incident.
