Assault and weapons charges, Mount Pleasant

Police have charged a 22-year-old man following an alleged incident involving a firearm in Mount Pleasant early this morning.
Police will allege they attempted to intercept a taxi on Windmill Crossing about 3.15am as they wished to speak with the man, who was a passenger, in relation to an outstanding matter.
Police will allege the man produced a firearm and demanded the taxi driver continue driving.
The taxi driver stopped the vehicle and the man fled from the vehicle on foot.
Police apprehended the man a short time later on Trade Court.
During a search police allegedly located a small quantity of methylamphetamines in the man’s possession, as well as a firearm and ammunition left inside the taxi.
The 38-year-old male taxi driver was not physically injured during the incident.
