Officers from Toowoomba will conduct a major multi-agency traffic operation throughout the Darling Downs District commencing tomorrow.
More than 100 staff from Queensland Police Service and the Department of Transport and Main Roads will take part in the operation.
Operation Quebec Smoke is designed to raise awareness of the ‘Fatal Five’, particularly leading into the spring holiday period, a period where significant numbers of crashes occur.
The Fatal Five – drink driving and drug driving, fatigue, inattention, seat belt use and speeding – are the most common killers on Queensland roads.
Police will conduct mobile patrols, establish Random Breath Testing and drug testing sites and will deploy speed cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology throughout the district.
“The goal of this operation is to educate the public and get them thinking about the Fatal Five during a busy period on our roads,” Inspector Sharee Cumming, Darling Downs District said.
