Police are investigating a crash between a truck and a van north of Bowen this morning.
Preliminary investigations indicate at 6.45am both vehicles were travelling south on the Bruce Highway. The van began to turn right into Tondara Road when it was struck by the truck.
Two passengers of the van were airlifted to Townsville Hospital in a critical condition. The driver and six other passengers were transported to Townsville with non-life-threatening injuries.
The truck driver was not physically injured.
It is believed the injured people are international travellers, mostly aged in their 20s, on their way to work.
The Bruce Highway re-opened at 10am.
Forensic Crash Unit investigations are continuing.
