Morningside Central’s $30 million redevelopment has reached a significant stage, with several major construction milestones now underway across the retail site. Since work began earlier this year, the long-planned transformation has progressed from early site works to major structural construction, all while shops remain open and accessible to the community.

From Plans to Progress
The redevelopment represents an investment of more than $30 million by Chin Hong Investments, which has owned Morningside Central since 2002. Plans for the project were announced in January, with construction beginning soon afterwards. Evolve Construction is delivering the staged upgrade while allowing the shopping centre to continue operating throughout the works.
Recent construction updates highlight the project’s latest structural works. Structural steel has been installed for the new high-level roof over the future BWS and Woolworths entry, while concrete has been poured for the new BWS tenancy and sections of the mall. Foundation, blockwork and amenity slab works are also advancing on the Junction Road extension.
Construction is also taking shape on a new double-storey car park, with screw pier caps and circular columns now being installed. Designed with flood mitigation measures, the elevated facility is intended to improve the centre’s resilience during severe weather events. Meanwhile, access gantries have been relocated to safely maintain operations for businesses trading throughout the redevelopment.
Updates shared by Morningside Central throughout March, May and July have documented the project’s steady progress, with the centre continuing to reassure shoppers that access remains available via Junction Road and Wynnum Road during construction.
Designed for Everyday Convenience
The redevelopment has been planned to create a more accessible and practical neighbourhood centre. New lifts and elevator access will improve mobility throughout the complex, complemented by safer pedestrian pathways and a simpler layout to help customers move more easily between shops and services.
Improvements to the streetscape along Wynnum Road and Junction Road are also planned as part of the redevelopment.
Parking has also been a major focus of the project. Once complete, the centre will feature approximately 300 parking spaces, including a suspended, flood-immune car park designed to provide more reliable access during heavy rainfall. Improved pedestrian links and additional direct-to-boot parking near Woolworths are also planned to make everyday shopping more convenient.
Beyond the physical upgrades, the redevelopment will expand the centre’s offering with 17 additional retail shops, an elevated commercial office space and a refreshed Woolworths supermarket.
Businesses Continue to Trade
Despite the ongoing construction, many long-standing businesses remain open. Leisa’s Café, Koko Sushi, Smiling Dental, Morningside Family Medical Centre and Sullivan Nicolaides continue to operate during Stage One, while Chempro Chemist has temporarily relocated nearby and Morningside Central News is trading from a resized tenancy.
Woolworths will also remain open throughout the redevelopment, ensuring the community continues to have access to essential grocery shopping while construction is underway. As part of the upgrade, the supermarket will receive a refresh alongside updated trolley bays, improved service and loading areas, and other improvements aimed at making shopping more convenient for customers and staff.

According to Chin Hong Investments, the staged redevelopment has been carefully planned to minimise disruption while delivering a modern, flood-resilient neighbourhood centre that better serves local residents, workers and visitors.
