Update: Arson investigation, Karalee

Police have charged a person in relation to a suspicious fire at Karalee State School on Monday, October 7.
Emergency services were called to Arthur Summersvilles Road at approximately 7pm following reports of a building on fire.
A classroom received internal damage however nobody was injured as a result of the fire.
A 15-year-old boy has been charged with arson and endangering property by fire and will be dealt with under the provision of the Youth Justice Act.

Police officer stood down, State Crime Command

A 57-year-old male detective sergeant from State Crime Command has been stood down from the Queensland Police Service.
The officer is subject of an investigation into allegations of drink driving while off duty and has been served a notice to appear in the Richlands Magistrates Court on October 22, charged with drink driving.

QPS now using drone technology at traffic incidents

Today, Road Policing Command (RPC) Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating joined Police Minister Mark Ryan to unveil new Forensic Crash Unit motorbikes equipped with drone technology to help map crash sites.
The use of drone technology significantly reduces scene mapping time and subsequent road closure times, significantly improving the quality and accuracy of evidence captured at crash scenes. The implementation costs less than mapping methods previously used.

It is estimated that in one year, congestion caused by traffic incidents on Brisbane roads cost the community 23 million dollars in lost time and productivity.
Assistant Commissioner Keating said that for 23 years, the Forensic Crash Unit (FCU) had been utilising the same technology for their investigations.
“A Project Team was established to identify emerging technology to replace outdated mapping methods to reduce road closure times and subsequent traffic congestion,” Assistant Commissioner Keating said.

Protest charges, Brisbane CBD

Police have arrested 35 people following protest activity in the Brisbane CBD today.
The people, ranging in age from 17 to 55, will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on a range of charges including assault police, obstruct police and contravene direction or requirement.
At around 6:15am a vehicle towing a catamaran has stopped at the intersection of George Street and Elizabeth Street, blocking one lane of traffic.
12 protesters were locked onto the catamaran, which was full of concrete and other objects.
Police responded to the incident and directed the protesters to unlock themselves, however they failed to comply.
Once specialist police arrived they made the tactical decision to cut the catamaran from the vehicle before cutting each protester off. The vehicle was towed to a separate location.
At approximately 9:15am, all protesters were removed from the roadway and were taken into custody.
At around 6:15am, two protesters drove off the Riverside Express Way onto Margaret Street

Update: Armed robbery, Toowoomba East

Police have charged a man after he allegedly robbed a pharmacy in Toowoomba East yesterday.
It will be alleged around 5.45pm, a man entered a pharmacy on Margaret Street with his face covered. He threatened staff with a knife and left with a quantity of prescription drugs.
A 32-year-old Newtown man has been charged with face disguised with intent to commit indictable offence, armed robbery, enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence and assault.
He will appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court tomorrow, October 11.

Armed robbery, Toowoomba East

Police are investigating an armed robbery in Toowoomba East yesterday.
Around 5.45pm, a man entered a pharmacy on Margaret Street with his face covered. He threatened staff with a knife and left with a quantity of prescription drugs.
He fled along Wendt Lane and was last seen in Kent Street.
The man is described as between 25-40 years of age, fair complexion and wearing a light-coloured jacket.
Investigators are urging anyone in the area who may have witnessed something or who may have CCTV or dash cam to contact police.

Fatal traffic crash, Parkinson

A man has died following a two-vehicle crash at Parkinson this afternoon.
Just after 3.30pm, a Nissan Patrol was travelling along Precinct Street when it attempted to turn into a driveway and collided with a motorcycle.
Emergency services were called and rendered assistance to the motorcyclist. The 51-year-old man died on scene as a result of his injuries.
The 19-year-old male driver of the Nissan Patrol did not suffer any physical injury.
Officers from the Forensic Crash Unit are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Police involved shooting, Bowen

A man has been transported to hospital after he was shot by police in Bowen this afternoon.
At around 2:30pm a man armed with a bladed weapon and a chain broke into the rear doors of the Bowen Police Station.
Officers responded and during a confrontation with police, officers discharged their service weapons, striking him in the hand and the abdomen.
Police then rendered first-aid until emergency services arrived at the scene.
A 35-year-old man was transported to Townsville Hospital in a serious condition for treatment.
No police officers were physically injured during the incident.
A crime scene has been declared and the matter is being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.

Protest charges, Brisbane CBD

Police have arrested seven people following protest activity in the Brisbane CBD today.
The people, ranging in age from 17 to 67, will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on a range of charges including endangering safety of persons travelling by railway, obstruct police and contravene direction or requirement.
At around 8.00am officers conducting proactive patrol of the city located a vehicle on Roma Street allegedly carrying a number of lock-on and protest devices.
A 23-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man were taken into custody at the scene.
Around 8.30am, police were called to Bowen Hills Railway Station after reports a man had chained himself to the tracks.
Trains were stopped immediately whilst specialist police removed the man and cleared the tracks before taking the man into custody around 9am.
A 54-year-old man from Woody Point has been charged with one count each of endangering safety of persons travelling by railway, contravene direction or requirement and initiation

Police arrest two persons after fraud investigation

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Financial and Cyber Crime Group have charged a 77-year-old woman and 49-year-old male with fraud after executing search warrants at two Coorparoo residences.
Police will allege that from February 2018 until January 2019, the woman used an enduring power of attorney to illegally obtain approximately $2.86 million from an 85-year old woman.
Police commenced a protracted investigation in July 2019 after receiving information from the Office of Public Guardian and Public Trustee.
Police will allege, while acting as the victim’s enduring power of attorney, the 77-year-old woman made a series of withdrawals from the victim’s account, including depositing $297,000 into the co-accused’s bank account. It will be alleged the money was used for the offenders’ personal benefit.
Detective Acting Superintendent Vince Byrnes of the Financial and Cyber Crime Group urged the community to be vigilant to this type of offending.
