Winter is in full swing which means ugg boots and electric blankets are a house hold favourite for many Australians … but not in Far North Queensland (FNQ)!
Over the past week the weather in the Far North has been nothing short of perfect with many tourists travelling north to enjoy the world famous rainforests and reefs, and one particular local resident unable to resist stunning four-mile beach in Port Douglas.
Around 4pm on Tuesday, July 16 local police were called to assist Surf Life Saving Queensland’s (SLSQ) Port Douglas team following reports of a crocodile swimming in the surf.
As the croc couldn’t be spotted from the beach the SLSQ team sent a drone up to investigate with a 3.5 metre crocodile located swimming about 20 metres from shore.
A SLSQ spokesperson said drone technology, having ‘eyes in the sky’, was an invaluable resource when ensuring everyone’s safety at local beaches.

Traffic crash, dangerous operation of vehicle and evade police, Logan
Police have made an arrest following an alleged dangerous operation of a motor vehicle which caused a serious traffic crash in Crestmead last night.
Around 9.55pm, the vehicle which police will allege was on the incorrect side of the road, collided head on with another car on Fifth Avenue after running a red light at a nearby intersection.
Police will further allege the vehicle earlier evaded police after an attempt to intercept it when police had spotted the vehicle driving without any registration plates.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was located and arrested at the scene.

Fatal traffic crash, Tallegalla
Police are investigating following a fatal traffic crash involving a motorbike at Tallegalla, west of Ipswich this afternoon.
Preliminary information suggests a head-on collision occurred between the motorbike and a ute on Rosewood Marburg Road around 4.15pm.
The motorbike rider, a 50-year-old Pine Mountain man, sustained critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The 62-year-old male driver of the ute was not seriously injured.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Charges following police incident, Kangaroo Point
A man has been charged with 13 serious offences after allegedly climbing the structure above the Clem 7 Tunnel entrance in Kangaroo Point this morning while armed with knives.
It will be alleged that around 6.50am a man entered a café on Baines Street and approached three employees behind the main counter.
The man allegedly demanded they hand over knives before taking two blades from a bench and leaving the premises.
A short time later the man returned and threatened a customer with the knives before forcing his way back into the café and making further threats to staff.
The employees and customer fled the scene before the man also left and crossed the road where he then allegedly climbed the Clem 7 tunnel structure on Shafston Avenue around 7am.
Officers blocked entry to the tunnel while specialist negotiators were called in to speak with the man.

Drug lab, Brassall
Three men have been arrested and police allegedly uncovered a hydroponic drug laboratory at Brassall this morning.
Shortly before 11.30am, Ipswich detectives and Tactical Crime Squad officers executed a search warrant on a Hunter Street address where three men were taken into custody in relation to outstanding property offences.
Upon arrival, officers located an alleged illicit drug laboratory in the bathroom of the property and a crime scene declared.
The men, aged 28, 30 and 34, are assisting police with their inquiries.

Update – Armed robbery, Newport
A 17-year-old boy has been charged following investigations into the alleged armed robbery of an elderly man in Newport this week.
On Monday, a 75-year-old man disturbed the teenager allegedly searching through his home on Defender Street around 4.40pm.
The boy was arrested in Maryborough and charged with serious assault, armed robbery, enter dwelling with intent, trespass, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving without a licence and stealing.

Update – Appeal for witnesses, Gulliver
Police have finalised an investigation after a report of an attempted assault at Gulliver on July 17.
Detectives have conducted a full and extensive investigation and have determined that no further police action is required.
Update: Robbery with violence, Arundel
A 32-year-old Parkwood woman has been arrested and charged with Robbery in Company and Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle.
The woman will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.
It will be alleged that at around 10.40pm on July 5 a 20-year-old man was sitting in his car at the rear of a Napper Road shopping centre when an unknown woman approached the vehicle and started a conversation with him.
It will be further alleged the woman hopped into the vehicle and continued talking to the 20 year-old man at which point another man approached the vehicle and started threatening him. The woman then started punching the man.
The man got out of his vehicle and the woman jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off.

Moreton Island essential service group meeting
Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP joined Acting Assistant Commissioner Michael Brady today for the Moreton Island essential service group meeting.
The Moreton Island essential service group was established in 2004 by the then Redcliffe Police District and brings together relevant stakeholders to discuss and ensure effective and appropriate responses are in place to respond to any emergency that may occur on Moreton Island.
Moreton Island falls within the Redcliffe Police Division, Moreton District in the Southern Region.
The island has three main settlements at Kooringal, Cowan Cowan and Bulwer with a total population that varies between 600 to 3,000 people.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Brady said Moreton Island continued to experience an influx of visitors and police were continuously working to ensure visitors could enjoy a safe and relaxing island holiday.

Update 4: Sunnybank shooting
Police have charged a third person with accessory after the fact to attempted murder as investigations continue into the shooting of a man and woman at Sunnybank on Saturday, June 22.
The arrest overnight of the 39-year-old Greenbank man is the second due to assistance they are alleged to have provided to the people directly involved in the shooting.
On July 3, police charged a 41-year-old man from Pallara with two counts of being an accessory after the fact to attempted murder.
On June 23, a 24-year-old Doolandella man was charged with multiple offences including two counts of being an accessory after the fact to attempted murder. He appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 24 and was remanded in custody to next appear in court on July 22.
He has since been charged with two counts of attempted murder.
