Update 3: Serious assault, Mareeba

A 26-year-old Beenleigh man has been charged with murder and is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow.
The man was charged after a 35-year-old man who previously had been assaulted died in hospital from his injuries on July 15.
The deceased man was allegedly assaulted and located unconscious at the rodeo grounds on Mareeba Dimbulah Road on July 10.

Robbery with violence – Arundel

Police are appealing for public assistance to help identify a woman who may be able to assist with an on-going investigation into an alleged robbery with violence at an Arundel shopping centre earlier this month.
It will be alleged that at around 10.40pm on July 5 a 20-year-old man was sitting in his car at the rear of a Napper Road shopping centre when an unknown woman approached the vehicle and started a conversation with him.
It will be further alleged the woman hopped into the vehicle and continued talking to the 20 year-old man at which point another man approached the vehicle and started threatening him. The woman then started punching the man.
The man got out of his vehicle and the woman jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off.
The 20-year-old man sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident.
The woman is described as Caucasian, 166 cm tall, proportionate

45 new officers sworn into Service at Townsville graduation

Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP and Commissioner Katarina Carroll recently welcomed 45 new police officers to the Queensland Police Service during an induction ceremony held at the QPS Academy, Townsville campus.
Graduating as First Year Constables, the new officers have completed 25 weeks of intensive training, preparing them for their new roles serving the community.

The recruit training program provides recruits with a high quality foundation so they can deliver an excellent level of service to the community and ensure their policing skills have developed to a level necessary for operational policing as First Year Constables (FYCs) under supervision.
Commissioner Carroll congratulated the FYCs on their graduation and announced they would commence their careers in the Central, Northern and Southern regions.
With this being her first induction as Commissioner of the QPS, Commissioner Carroll reflected on her own graduation.

Appeal for witnesses: attempted assault, Gulliver

Townsville detectives are appealing for information followed the attempted assault of a girl in Gulliver on Tuesday, July 16.
Preliminary investigations indicate the girl was walking along Hugh Street, between Desailly Street and Fulham Road, just after 3pm when she was approached by a male believed to be in his teens.
The male led the girl into nearby bushes before shoving her to the ground. He grabbed at her however she managed to break free and flee.
The male is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his mid-teens and was last seen wearing a red jumper and riding a black mountain bike.
The girl was not physically injured during the attempted assault.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious around Hugh Street in Gulliver on July 16.

Dangerous operation of a vehicle, Southport

An alleged drug driver has been charged with multiple offences after failing to stop for police and driving dangerously through the Gold Coast last night.
It will be alleged that yesterday around 2.50pm officers patrolling Ferry Road observed a Silver Nissan Navara bearing stolen number plates travelling towards Southport.
Police attempted to intercept the vehicle before it allegedly drove away at speed.
The same Navara was allegedly seen a short time later proceeding through a red light on Nerang Street in front of an oncoming tram before mounting the footpath to travel around stopped traffic.
Later that evening around 7.45pm police received information regarding the same car being driven erratically through Southport onto tram tracks and conducting “burn outs”.
Police again attempted to intercept the vehicle on Lather Street however it travelled onto a footpath before allegedly speeding away.
Officers assumed positions throughout Surfers Paradise before successfully deploying a tyre deflation device on the Navara.

Dangerous driving and evade police, Mackay

Mackay police have charged five teenagers following an alleged evade police and dangerous driving incident this morning from Proserpine to Mackay.
Just after 7am, police received multiple calls in relation to a car driving dangerously southbound on the Bruce Highway.
At 8:15am, the stolen car was observed by police still travelling southbound along the highway.
A marked police vehicle activated their lights and sirens however the car refused to stop.
The vehicle was then subject to a successful tyre deflation deployment near the intersection with Bald Hill Road.
Police continued to follow the car until it stopped on Parkedge Avenue at Richmond Hills.
Police arrested the driver and three rear passengers.
The front passenger exited the car and ran into nearby bushland.   He was subsequently located a short time later by dog squad.
The boy was transported to hospital and received medical treatment for a minor dog bite.

Sudden death investigation, Gheerulla

Police are investigating the overnight death of a 21-year-old man at Gheerulla.
The local man was found deceased on Eumundi Kenilworth Road in the Sunshine Coast hinterland early this morning by a passing motorist, with police called to the scene around 4am.
Preliminary investigations suggest the man may have fallen asleep close to the road and may have been struck by a passing vehicle, with the driver possibly unaware they struck the man.
Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit and detectives from Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch are continuing.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area, who saw a person walking on the roadway on Eumundi-Kenilworth Road near the intersection of Sam Kelly Road, Gheerulla between 8pm last night (July 16) and 4am this morning to contact police.

Update 5 Homicide investigation, Plainland

Police are continuing to appeal for public information to help locate a 21-year-old man wanted in relation to the death of 53-year-old Oakey man Paul Rock at Plainland on July 1.
Around 6pm on July 1, Mr Rock died in the rear car park of a local business on Laidley Plainland Road after allegedly being involved in an incident with two men.
Following an investigation, police charged a 26-year-old Park Ridge man with murder, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of supplying a dangerous drug and armed robbery.
An arrest warrant has been issued for the second man, 21-year-old Kye Enright.
Detectives have released an image of Mr Enright who is believed to be frequenting the Gold Coast and Northern NSW areas.
He is described as Caucasian, 165cm tall, slim build, brown hair and blue eyes.
Members of the public are urged not to approach the man but to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Kidnapping, Crestmead

Police have charged three people after a man was allegedly held against his will and robbed in Crestmead yesterday.
It will be alleged that the 27-year-old man had been communicating with a woman via social media for the past month and agreed to meet with her at an address on Hakea Street around 11am.
It is further alleged that once at the residence, the man engaged in conversation with the woman before consuming an unknown substance which caused him to pass out.
When the man woke up he was confronted by two men who threatened him with a knife and made demands for his credit card.
The victim was also allegedly forced by the two men and the woman to sign over ownership of his vehicle, a BMW.

Dangerous driving stolen car, Gold Coast

Two men have been charged with a string of offences after allegedly attempting to evade police in a stolen car at Coomera last night.
Gold Coast police were conducting patrols along the Pacific Motorway when they observed a stolen white Holden Captiva around 7.30pm.
Officers followed the vehicle to the Foxwell Road offramp where a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed, however the car continued to head along Dreamworld Parkway and back on to the Motorway.
The driver of the damaged car allegedly attempted to ram police vehicles a number of times before speeding away.
The vehicle was dumped soon after on Diamond Sands Drive at Upper Coomera and the Dog Squad commenced an immediate search of the area.
A successful track by the Police Dog led to the arrest of two men hiding near a service station.
