Shots fired, Woolloongabba

Police are investigating after someone has fired shots into a business in Woolloongabba overnight.
Preliminary investigations indicate at about 2.35am shots were fired into a gym on Annerley Road through the front glass door and a number of windows.
No one was in the business at the time and no one was injured in the incident.
A member of the public who heard the shots contacted police.
Police are appealing for anyone with further information or anyone in the area with dashcam vision to contact police.

Update – Break and enter, Chinchilla

Four people have been charged following investigations into the break in of a store at a Chinchilla shopping centre on June 25.
Around 12.30am, a group of people allegedly forced their way into the Middle Street store, removing entertainment and electrical items before leaving the store.
There was significant damage caused to the store as a result of the incident.
Two 15-year-old boys and two 14-year-old boys have been charged with enter premises and commit indictable offence.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing and officers continue to appeal for anyone with further information to contact them.

Cash and drug seizure, Clairview

Sarina Police have charged two men after discovering more than $800,000 in cash and ice during a traffic stop in Clairview.
At around 12.00pm on June 25 an officer from Mackay District Road Policing Unit intercepted a vehicle on the Bruce Highway after observing it driving significantly below the speed limit.
It will be alleged when a search of the vehicle was conducted a large sum of money and 100 grams of the drug ice were located.
Two men were taken into custody at the scene without incident.
A 45-year-old East Deep Creek man has been charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and possessing utensils or pipes that have been used.
He appeared in Mackay Magistrates Court today and has been remanded in custody to appear on August 21.
A 62-year-old man from The Avenues has been charged with possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under the Drugs Misuse

Sergeant Billy Li is a branch manager for PCYC in the Whitsundays. Before he took that role and when we caught up with him he was a Cultural Advisory Officer with the Queensland Police Service (QPS) Cultural Engagement Unit, and he loves the challenges and rewards of his career.
“My role is very unique, it’s very special and it’s very diverse and it’s nothing like any other job in the Queensland Police Service,” Sergeant Li said.
Working in policy and program development, the Cultural Engagement Unit links the QPS with many multicultural and Indigenous bodies in Australia to provide reviews, advice, consultation and education to the QPS and the public.
These include partnerships and discussions with local communities and cultural groups as well as government departments, non-government organisations and other Australian law enforcement agencies.

Fatal traffic crash, Nankin

Police are investigating a fatal single vehicle traffic crash this morning in Nankin.
Initial inquiries indicate shortly after 4am a four-wheel drive was travelling on Emu Park Road when it left the road, rolled a number of times and struck a tree.
The driver, a man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Forensic Crash Unit investigations are continuing.

Homicide investigation, Kowanyama

Detectives are investigating the suspicious death of a woman and unlawful wounding of a child in Kowanyama this morning.
Shortly after 1am police attended a residence after receiving reports of a disturbance.
Upon arrival, a 27-year-old woman was located with stab wounds to her neck and upper torso.
The woman was taken to the Kowanyama Health Clinic and pronounced deceased a short time later.
Officers were then called to nearby address where a seven-year-old boy was located with non-life-threatening injuries.
He has since been transferred to Cairns Hospital for further treatment.
A 29-year-old man has been arrested and is assisting detectives with their inquiries.
The man, woman and child were known to each other.
Two crime scenes have been established as investigations continue.

Assistant Commissioner Cowden off to Harvard University

On Wednesday June 26, it was announced that Assistant Commissioner Sharon Cowden from Ethical Standards Command, was the 2019 winner of the Chief Executive Women (CEW) scholarship for the Authentic Leader Development program at Harvard Business School.
Assistant Commissioner Cowden will attend the highly regarded leadership program in July, and is the fifth CEW scholar to attend and second QPS officer, following Superintendent Virginia Nelson in 2017.
Currently leading a team of 135, Assistant Commissioner Cowden has state-wide responsibility for driving ethical behaviour, discipline and processional practice among the QPS workforce.
Assistant Commissioner Cowden said she was looking forward to broadening her leadership skills and becoming a better coach, mentor and guide for others, particularly women in leadership.
“I understand the challenges women face, so I’m proud to be a strong advocate for inclusion and diversity in all workforce’s,” Assistant Commissioner Cowden said.

Trespassing and obstruct police, Raceview

A man has been charged with trespassing and obstruct police following an incident in Raceview overnight.
At about 11:20pm police were called to a Zoe Court address in Raceview following reports of a man on a roof.
Upon arrival, police located a 28-year-old man on the roof who refused to come down.
A police negotiator was called to the scene and after 2.5 hours, the man was assisted by police down from the roof.
A 28-year-old Moorooka man has been charged with two counts of trespass and one count each of unregulated high-risk activities, wilful damage and obstruct police.
He will appear at the Ipswich Magistrates Court later today.

Serious assault, Surfers Paradise

A man is in a critical condition after a serious assault occurred in Surfers Paradise early this morning.
At about 1:20am police were called to Orchid Avenue after reports of a 28-year-old Southport man was unconscious after a 19-year-old man allegedly struck him.
The man has then fallen backwards and hit his head on the concrete ground.
The man was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital with serious head injuries and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit.
A 19-year-old Victorian man was transported to the Southport Watchouse and was later charged with grievously bodily harm and common assault.
He will appear at the Southport Magistrates Court later today.

Serious traffic crash, Comet

Two men are injured following a single vehicle traffic crash in Comet yesterday evening.
At about 8:30pm, emergency services attended a single vehicle traffic crash on the Capricorn Highway approximately five kilometres west of Comet.
Preliminary investigations indicate the car was travelling from Blackwater towards Emerald and has lost control causing the car to roll multiple times before catching on fire.
Upon arrival, emergency services have located the two occupants outside the car.
The driver a 37-year-old man from Emerald was transported to Emerald Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The passenger a 24-year-old man from Blackall was transported to Emerald Hospital and later flown to a Brisbane hospital with serious head injuries. He remains in a critical condition.
The highway was closed for approximately two hours but has now reopened.
Forensic crash unit will continue to investigate.
