Serious crash, Maroochydore

A man has received serious head injuries, as a result of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian at Maroochydore this morning.
Initial investigations indicate, at around 4.30 the collision occurred in the Westbound lanes of Aerodrome Road near the Sizzler restaurant.
The injured pedestrian was subsequently transported from the scene, to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for medical treatment.
The roadway at that location is closed for the safety of investigators and drivers are urged to consider alternative routes.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Sexual assault charges, Cairns

A man has been charged following investigations into three sexual assault incidents in Cairns earlier today.
Police will allege a man approached and innapropriately touched three women near the Cairns Lagoon between 12.30 and 1.30pm.
A member of the public chased the man along the Esplanade before he disappeared while running down Spence Street.
Following complaints received from the three women, officers retrieved and reviewed CCTV footage of the surrounding area, identified the man and located him a short time later. He was charged soon after.
A 24-year-old man has been charged with three counts of sexual assault and will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday, January 7.
Detectives are now appealing for anyone who believes they may have been innapropriately approached by this man, and who have not already spoken to police about the incident to please contact them.

Update – Homicide investigation, Booval

Detectives investigating a suspicious death in Booval this morning have charged a 45-year-old man with murder.
Around 9am emergency services were called to a unit in Bergin Street to treat a man with an alleged stomach wound.
A 29-year-old man was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with life-threating-injuries where he later died.
A 45-year-old Moores Park man has since been charged with murder.
He is scheduled to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday, January 7.

Burglary with violence, South Maclean

Police are investigating a burglary with violence at a South Maclean home yesterday afternoon.
Around 3pm, four men entered the back of the Mountain Ridge Road house, one of them struck a 62-year-old male resident in the face with the butt of a firearm before demanding personal items.
The men fled in a white Holden Commodore after stealing mobile phones and car keys.
The first man is described as Caucasian, around 180cm tall with a thin muscular build, bald head, short or patchy beard and wearing a light blue or white business shirt, navy blue dress pants and dress shoes.
The second man was described as Pacific Islander in appearance, approximately 170 – 175cm tall with a dark complexion, a proportionate muscular build and wearing a black cap and a black t-shirt pulled up over his nose.
The third man is described as Pacific islander in appearance and approximately 190cm tall.
Investigations are continuing.

Update: Armed robberies, Brisbane and Logan

Detectives investigating a series of linked armed robberies across Brisbane and Logan overnight have released CCTV footage as they continue to search for those involved.
Around 10:20pm a 28-year-old man was threatened by three people while arriving home in his white 2007 Toyota Corolla with Queensland registration 881LZP at Wardle Street in Mount Gravatt East.
One of the trio, a man armed with a firearm, removed him from the vehicle and physically assaulted him before the group fled in the car.
The vehicle was then linked to an attempted robbery of a service station on Compton Road at Woodridge around midnight.
At 12:30 am, police responded to reports of an armed robbery at a service station in Johnson Road, Hillcrest.
A man and a woman smashed their way into the service station before threatening the female console operator with a firearm and crowbar.

Dangerous driving incident, Sunshine Coast

Two people are assisting police with their enquiries following a pursuit of a stolen vehicle on the Sunshine Coast overnight.
Just before midnight a Toyota Hilux, which had been reported stolen from Narangba on January 3, was sighted driving through Woorim.
The same vehicle was later seen travelling north on the Bruce Highway, near Forest Glen.
Officers successfully deployed tyre deflation devices at Kybong, however the vehicle allegedly refused to stop, at which point police commenced a pursuit of the stolen vehicle.
It will be alleged the vehicle was seen travelling at around 110kmph, before colliding with a truck on the Bruce Highway at Gunalda.
A 33-year-old Burpengary man was transported to Gympie Hospital.
A 23-year-old woman was transported to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Investigations are continuing.
