Serious assault police charges, Cairns

Detectives charged a man following the alleged assault of a Queensland Police Watchhouse officer in the Cairns Magistrates Court yesterday morning.
At around around 9.50am man was in custody at a court hearing when it will be alleged he yelled abuse to members of the court and allegedly kicked the door of the dock numerous times.
The man allegedly failed to comply with requests from officers to cease his behaviour.
Officers entered the dock area in an attempt to subdue to man, and when capsicum spray was deployed  the man then allegedly lunged at a Watchhouse officer, striking him in the face numerous times.
The man was then restrained by police.
The 41-year-old Watchhouse officer was conveyed to hospital for treatment of scratches to his nose, eyes and left side of his face.

Break and enter appeal, Ipswich and Brisbane

Detectives have released footage and are appealing to the public to help locate two men who can assist with police inquiries into a number of burglaries across Ipswich and Brisbane.
Between August and December, 2018 a total of nine warehouses and small businesses have been targeted at Ipswich, Jindalee, Rocklea, Deagon and Keperra.
Detectives believe the series of break and enters are linked and that the men in the vision may be able to help with their inquiries. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
Investigations are continuing.

Hit and run traffic crash, Richlands

Police are investigating a traffic crash on Garden Road Richland this afternoon.
At around 3.50pm a white car and a ute were heading North on Garden Road, close to Bunnings.
Initial information suggests the ute in the right-hand lane has side swiped the car in the left-hand lane and driven off toward the Centenary Motorway Exit.
No one was injured.
Police would like to speak with the driver of the ute or anyone who had dash cam footage of that area at that time.
The investigation is continuing.

Assault, Cairns City

Police are investigating an alleged assault in Cairns City on January 1 which was brought to their attention after video of the incident was recorded and shared on social media.
The video depicts disturbing footage of a group of girls assaulting two girls from behind on Grafton Street around 7pm.
Upon being brought to the attention of police, an investigation commenced which identified a 14-year-old victim of the alleged assault.
A 14-year-old girl voluntarily attended Cairns Police Station and will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act for common assault.
Inquiries are continuing in respect of other participants in the incident.
Cairns police would like to reaffirm its position that violence such as that depicted in the footage is not tolerated and encourage any victim or witnesses of such crime to immediately report the matter to police.

Armed robbery charges, Belmont

Detectives have charged a man following an alleged armed robbery incident at Belmont on December 18.
It is alleged at 4am, two men armed with a knife entered a licensed premises on Belmont Road and threatened two staff members before tying them up.
It is further alleged the men stole a sum of money and other items of property prior to fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
The vehicle is described as being a white 2006, Toyota Camry sedan with Queensland registration 026LVE.
The vehicle was located on December 23 at Ningi.
No one was physically injured during this incident.
Police are seeking dash cam vision from members of the public who may have been in the area at the time.

Day 11 – Christmas Road Safety Campaign (phase 2)

Day 11 of the Christmas Road Safety Campaign (phase 2) has seen a total of 24 drivers charged with drink driving out of 2849 random breath tests performed.
The highest recorded readings were both 0.173%, one at Hope Island and the other at Coorparoo.
Forty drivers also returned positive roadside drug tests across the State.
Twenty-five people were injured in 21 traffic crashes across the State with police detecting more than 2,978 speeding motorists including one driver allegedly travelling at 118kms in an 60km zone on Lytton Road at Hemmant.
Police detected 17 seat-belt offences and a further 27 drivers were detected using their mobile phones with a total of 878 traffic infringement notices issued yesterday.
Officers will continue to target high-risk road user behaviour which contribute to the Fatal Five: speeding, drink and drug driving, distracted driving, fatigue and failing to wear a seatbelt.

CCTV appeal for armed robbery Parkwood

Police have released CCTV of a man and a car they are seeking in relation to the armed robbery of another man at a car wash at Parkwood in early December 2018.
Between 12.55am and 1.15am on December 4, 2018 a 22-year-old man was cleaning his silver sedan when a red hatchback drove past, and a male passenger got out.
The passenger, armed with a screw driver, approached the man who had been cleaning his car and made demands for the car keys. The victim refused to hand over his car keys and the offender then went to the driver’s side window which was down, leaned in and stole a phone.
The man then fled getting back into the passenger side of the red hatchback which drove away.

Rape and domestic violence charges, Far North Queensland

Police have charged a 23-year-old man with rape following an alleged assault in Far North Queensland yesterday afternoon.
It is alleged that between December 25 and January 2, the man assaulted a 35- year-old woman at two separate locations.
The woman received extensive bruising to her face, arms and body as a result of the incident.
The man is charged with one count each of rape, assault occasioning bodily harm, strangulation and contravention of a domestic violence order.
He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on January 3.

Serious crash, Mackay

A 77-year-old woman has received serious leg injuries, as a result of a two-vehicle crash that occurred at Mackay this evening.
Initial investigations indicate at around 7 pm, emergency services have responded to a head on crash between a Mazda van driven by the woman and a Toyota Hilux at the intersection of Bridge Road and Holland Street.
The occupants of the other vehicle we unharmed.
The woman was subsequently transported from the scene, to the Mackay Base Hospital for medical treatment of her injuries.
The investigation is continuing.
