Suspicious grass fires, Bowen

Police are appealing for public assistance in relation to a number of suspicious grass fires being investigated south of Bowen.
Initial investigations indicate between 9am and 11am today, approximately 20 spot fires were lit on Peter Delemothe Road between Bowen and Collinsville.
Police are seeking information in relation to a white van that was observed in the area at that time as police believe the occupants may be able to assist with their inquiries.
No one has been injured as a result of the fires, however the fires present significant risk to properties in the area.
Police are appealing to any members of the public who have information in relation to this matter or relevant dash-cam footage from Peter Delemothe Road today to contact police.
Investigations are continuing.

Assault, Burleigh Heads

Police have released vision as part of an appeal for public assistance to identify two men they wish to speak with in relation to the assault of a man and woman at Burleigh Heads last month.
Around 10.00pm on Thursday October 4, a 63-year-old Burleigh Heads man and 60-year-old Burleigh Heads woman were walking home along the footpath at Goodwin Terrace, when a man – who was not known to the pair – approached the woman and punched her repeatedly.
The 63-year-old man tried to intervene and was then assaulted himself before the man fled the scene on foot.
The 60-year-old woman suffered a broken ankle and bruising to her face and head while the 63-year-old man suffered broken ribs and a collapsed lung.
Both were transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

Minister congratulates Project Booyah graduates

Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan, congratulated 11 Project Booyah participants from the Redcliffe and Pine Rivers area who graduated yesterday.
Project Booyah aims to give at-risk young people skills for life and employability through police mentoring, leadership skills, adventure-based learning and vocational pathways.
These methods help them feel validated, regain a sense of their own self-worth and build resilience.
The 11 newest graduates have successfully completed a 17-week course and were acknowledged at the graduation ceremony last night by Minister Ryan.
Minister Mark Ryan said the graduates are yet another positive example of the work Project Booyah is providing to the Queensland community.
“These young Queenslanders have been mentored by police officers in their local areas and should feel incredibly proud of themselves for completing the program,” Minister Mark Ryan said.

QPS Breast Cancer Challenge Coins raise over $11,000

In August 2017, two members of the Queensland Police Service, Sergeants Lesley Phinn and Sue Newton, with approval from Cancer Council Queensland, marketed a Breast Cancer Challenge Coin.
The coin was designed by Senior Constable Richard Power.
A challenge coin is a small coin or medallion bearing an organisation’s insignia and is traditionally exchanged with other police officers from different jurisdictions, whether this is state, federal or overseas.
One of the driving forces behind the challenge coin for breast cancer was due to Sergeant Lesley Phinn being diagnosed herself.
“In 2015, I was diagnosed and began treatment for breast cancer; I had numerous surgeries, chemo therapy, radiation and drug therapies for over 12 months,” she said.
“Being a single mother of two children, the support I received from my friends and work colleagues made things easier.
“With the support of senior management, I was able to work around my chemo and daily radiation. Which allowed the

Have you spotted any lost calves?

Acting on information received from the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries inspectors in the Emerald Springsure area, officers from the Rockhampton Major and Organised Crime Squad (Rural)  conducted an investigation into suspected stealing of stock in the Springsure area.
On November 3 2018, officers executed a search warrant at a Springsure address and seized 20 head of Black Angus calves.
The calves are believed to be from a mob of cattle that had moved through the area along the stock route between July and September.
The owner of the calves was very appreciative to have the calves back, however believes there may be others in the area.
MOCS (Rural) officers are appealing for community members to come forward with any information regarding any calves in the Springsure area that may have come from this mob or any other mob of cattle that has moved through the area along the stock route.

Armed robbery, Loganlea

Detectives are investigating after an armed robbery in Loganlea yesterday afternoon.
Preliminary investigations indicate at around 5:00pm a woman was approached by a man as she exited her car at a business on Coral Street.
The man threatened the woman with a small axe before stealing her car keys and fleeing the scene in her vehicle.
The woman did not require medical treatment as a result of the incident.
The man is described as Pacific Islander in appearance, aged in his early 20s with shoulder-length dark hair.
The vehicle is described as a yellow 2016 Hyundai Accent (similar to pictured) with Queensland registration 073-WLW.

Day six of Gold Coast Schoolies 2018

It was a busy night in Surfer Paradise last night with a large crowd descending on the entertainment precinct for day six of schoolies on the Gold Coast.
Despite the large crowd there were only eight schoolies charged with twelve offences overnight, mainly relating to drug and public nuisance offences. One schoolie was given a liquor infringement notice for drinking in a public place. Of the schoolies arrested; five were male and three were female.
Also overnight, 13 people were arrested 14 charges which were not schoolies related and were mainly drug offences. There were also no non-schoolies who were given liquor infringement notices.

Suspicious unit fire, Highgate Hill

Police are investigating a suspicious unit fire that occurred at Highgate Hill this afternoon.
At about 12.10pm, police attended a unit complex at Rosecliffe Street in relation to a fire at that location which also destroyed four vehicles parked at the complex.
No one was injured during the blaze.
Initial investigations into the fire have investigators treating the incident as suspicious.
Investigations are continuing.

Burglary charge, Karalee

Police have charged two men following an alleged burglary incident at an address in Karalee today.
At about 12.45pm, due to information received, police intercepted a vehicle that was parked on the Cunningham Highway on-ramp at Blackstone that had stopped due to tyre damage.
Police arrested two people located with the vehicle and an additional three people who were located at a nearby business premises on the opposite side of the highway.
Investigations led police to a Collingwood park address where it is alleged four rifles and a quantity of ammunition were located in the rear of a vehicle parked at the address.
Inquiries into the located property revealed the items were allegedly stolen from an address in Karalee earlier that day.
A 39-year-old Bellbird park man is charged with one count of receiving tainted property and will appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on December 13.
