Road closures for the 2018 T20 Australia v South Africa cricket match, Carrara

Gold Coast police would like to remind motorists of upcoming road closures due to the 2018 T20 Australia v South Africa cricket match at Carrara.
The event will be held tomorrow (Saturday November 17) with a sell-out crowd of more than 23,000 spectators expected to attend this year’s event.
Police have been working with event organisers and stakeholders to ensure the cricket match is conducted safely and with minimum disruption to traffic.
Motorists are advised that travelling in the vicinity of Metricon Stadium – specifically Nerang-Broadbeach Road – at Carrara during this event may results in delays due to the diversions that will be in place.
Police encourage all patrons attending the cricket match to utilize free transport that is incorporated in the ticket price.
Police also remind all patrons attending the inaugural cricket match that it is offence to enter the field of play.

Drug arrests during week of pre-Schoolies action, Gold Coast District

Police have charged 36 people on 89 drugs and weapons offences, as part of a major week of action targeting the supply of dangerous drugs on the Gold Coast.
During the week-long operation, Gold Coast detectives executed 33 search warrants across the northern district, including; Southport, Surfers Paradise, Runaway Bay, Coomera, Nerang, Pacific Pines, Pimpama, Upper Coomera, Ashmore, Highland Park, Labrador, Biggera Waters and Arundel.
It will be alleged that a significant amount of methylamphetamine (Ice), Gamma Hydroxybutyrate (Fantasy), MDMA and cannabis was seized, equating to an approximate street value of more than $15,000. Stolen property was also allegedly located, including; a motorcycle, trailers and a firearm silencer.
To date, 36 people have been charged with a range of offences, including; the production, supply and possession of dangerous drugs and weapons offences. More arrests and charges are expected today.

Police charge man over interstate housing scam

A 50-year-old Tugun man has today been charged following a three-year investigation conducted by the Queensland Police Service’s Financial and Cyber Crime Group in collaboration with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission.
Operational North Sunbound involved an investigation into the Directors of Gold Coast based N1 Homes Pty Ltd.
It is alleged they dishonestly induced victims to deliver over $2.628 million for the construction of houses in Queensland. All victims are from outside of Queensland
The investigation also involved building companies owned by N1 Homes Pty Ltd who were building investment homes and targeting interstate investors.
In September 2015 the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) suspended the building licence of N1 Homes Pty Ltd. Following this action, N1 Homes Pty Ltd went into liquidation and at this time had not completed any of building projects undertaken.

$250,000 reward for information about Gold Coast murder

A $250,000 reward for information has been announced to help solve a Gold Coast murder case spanning more than 18 years.
Police Minister Mark Ryan has announced the approval for a $250,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of 41-year-old Gennadi Bernovski at Benowa Waters in July 2000.
Minister Ryan said he hoped the reward would reignite public interest in the case.
“We are appealing to the public to come forward and help police so that Mr Bernovski’s family can finally get the closure they deserve,” he said.
“They deserve to know what happened to him and to see those responsible brought to justice.
“We also owe it to the community to ensure anyone who commits such serious and heinous crimes face the full force of the law, regardless of the time that has passed.

Four charged over drugs, Labrador

Police have charged four people after allegedly uncovering a significant amount of the drug “Ice”, cash and stolen property at Labrador yesterday.
Around 7.45am, officers from the Rapid Action Patrol group executed a search warrant at a residence on Government Road, where they allegedly located $2,500 cash, approximately 23 grams of methamphetamine, drug utensils, scales, as well as identification and property which had been stolen from a Jacobs Well property on November 10 .
A 35-year-old Miami man has been charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs,
possessing drug utensils, unlawful possession of stolen property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle,
unlicensed driving, possessing property suspected of being stolen, possessing suspected proceeds of an offence.
He is scheduled to reappear at the Southport Magistrates Court on November 20.
A 31-year-old Labrador woman has been charged with one count of possessing drug utensils.
She is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on November 28.

Operation Pine closes with 27 charged with drug and weapons offences

Police have charged 27 people on 77 drugs and weapons offences following the closure of a four-day operation targeting the areas of Gympie, Mary Valley, Kenilworth and the Bauple hinterland.
The operation was conducted by members of State Crime Command’s Major and Organised Crime (Rural) with assistance from Sunshine Coast Tactical Crime Squad, Gympie CIB, Nambour CIB and officers from Kilkivan, Kenilworth and Biggenden.
During a series of search warrants, police located almost $1.5million in drugs which consisted of two hydroponic cannabis setups, numerous bush cannabis plots and five kilograms of dried cannabis. Police also located and seized one unlicensed firearm and recovered a stolen off road caravan valued at $80,000.
Those charged will appear in court in the coming weeks.

Variety donates to Commissioner’s Gift Drive!

Commissioner Ian Stewart receives donations from Variety CEO Steve Wakerley
This morning, Commissioner Ian Stewart met representatives from Variety – the Children’s Charity, including CEO Steve Wakerley, who stopped by at Queensland Police Headquarters on Roma Street to drop off gifts for the Commissioner’s Gift Drive.
The Commissioner’s Gift Drive has been running for 26 years, and Variety have been a major provider of gifts to the drive since 2010.
This year Variety have already provided around 1,000 children’s toys.
We have partnered with the Department of Child Safety and several PCYCs this year, and identified children in care and at-risk children in need of Christmas gifts.
The 2018 Gift Drive has 1767 children registered to receive gifts this year aged between 1 and 12 years of age.

Serious assault, Rockhampton

Police are investigating the serious assault of a man in Wandal yesterday.
Around 12pm, a 23-year-old old man and woman were driven from an East Street address to an area near the Rockhampton Ski Gardens by up to three men.
The 23-year-old man was then assaulted by the other men with an unknown object before he was left at the scene.
The three men drove the woman to an address in The Range where she contacted police.
A witness observed the injured man at the Ski Gardens and called an ambulance. He was transported to Rockhampton Base Hospital for treatment of head injuries.
Police are seeking anyone who was around the Ski Gardens between 12-1pm yesterday and saw anything which could assist with the investigation.

Armed robbery, Kingston

Police are investigating an armed robbery incident that occurred at Kingston this afternoon.
At about 12.30pm, three men and a woman entered a business on Yalumba Street.
When a staff member confronted the woman in relation to stealing items from the store, one of the men produced a knife and threatened the staff member.
The three men and the woman fled the business a short time later on foot with a number of items of property taken from the store.
No one was injured during the incident.
Investigations are continuing.

Be a Mate: Don’t Tailgate

Rear-end crashes are costly, and unfortunately common.
Around 1 in 3 claims made to the Queensland CTP insurance scheme relate to rear-end crashes, and they represent more than 25% of the total paid.
People need to take these crashes seriously: not only do these incidents have financial costs to Queensland, but they can result in injuries such as whiplash and ongoing effects on health and wellbeing.
We’ve teamed up with the Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) to call on Queensland drivers to ‘Be a Mate’ out on the road and help make it safer for everyone.
By being more mindful about things like following distance and the actions of other motorists around us, we can reduce the number of rear-end crashes.
The first step to being a mate? Don’t tailgate!
You wouldn’t do it in person, so don’t do it on the road.
