Dangerous driving and weapons offences, Petrie

Police have charged a 43-year-old Griffin man following an alleged dangerous driving incident in the Sunshine Coast and Pine Rivers areas this afternoon.
At about 1pm at Maroochydore, it is alleged the man was sighted in possession of a hand gun whilst driving a vehicle and at about 2.30pm driving in a dangerous manner in the Burpengary area.
It is further alleged the man later dumped the vehicle at a quarry in Petrie and decamped on foot, discarding two handguns in the bush and lighting a number of small fires as he ran.
Police arrested the man a short time later in addition to locating the two firearms.
The man is charged with one count each of common assault, going armed to cause fear, dangerous driving, fail to stop vehicle, wilful damage, unlawful possession of weapons, setting fire to plants and possessing dangerous goods in a vehicle.

Appeal for public assistance: Suspicious Fire, Berserker

Detectives investigating a suspicious fire at a Berserker café early this morning have released images of a woman they believe may be able to assist them with their inquiries.
Around 5am emergency services were called to the Musgrave Street café following reports of a fire at the rear of the property.
The fire was extinguished but extensive damage was caused to the business.
Police believe the fire was deliberately lit and are appealing for anyone who has any information or recognises the woman pictured to contact Rockhampton Criminal Investigation Branch on 4932 3550.
A crime scene has been declared as investigations into the fire continue.

Traffic crash, Burleigh Heads

Police are investigating a traffic crash that occurred at Burleigh Heads early this morning.
Initial information suggests that a 36-year-old man was riding a bicycle at the intersection of Cedar Court and the Gold Coast Highway when it appears he lost control of the bike and struck a retaining wall.
He was located by a motorist who called emergency services and was taken to the Gold Coast University in a serious condition.
The Forensic Crash Unit are appealing to anyone that may have been in the area at the time and may have dashcam to contact them.

Grievous bodily harm, Redcliffe

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault early this morning in Redcliffe.
Around 2.20am, a man was involved in an argument with three other people in a car park at Sutton Street.
The argument turned physical when a man struck another in the head, knocking him to the ground and fled the scene in a vehicle.
A 20-year-old man was transported to the Redcliffe Hospital and then further transferred to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with serious facial and brain injuries including a suspected fractured skull.
He remains in a serious but stable condition.
Detectives from the Moreton District Criminal Investigation Branch are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time and who may have witnessed or recorded the incident on their phone to come forward.
Investigations are continuing.

Police make habitual consorting arrests

Taskforce Maxima officers and police from the Mt Isa District have made arrests as part of a major operation targeting criminal activity and habitual consorting under the new serious and organised crime legislation.
Operation Quebec Schedule was established by the Organised Crime Gangs Group in partnership with the Mount Isa Police District targeting the criminal activities of the Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) in the state’s north west.
On the Saturday morning, officers from Taskforce Maxima, State Intelligence, Tactical Crime Squad, general duties officers, and Criminal Investigation Branch detectives arrested men in Mount Isa, Cloncurry and Rockhampton.
As a result of the operation, six people were detained including patched members of the Rebels Mount Isa chapter.
A 51-year-old man – a member and former president of the Rebels OMCG – was arrested following the execution of a search warrant on a West Street, Winston home this morning

Attempted murder charge, Caboolture

Moreton District detectives have charged a 28-year-old man with attempted murder following investigations into an overnight incident in Caboolture in which a man was allegedly stabbed.
It will be alleged the man was at a Battersby Street residence around 11.30pm when he confronted a 40-year-old male occupant, threatening him with a knife. A struggle ensued during which time the 40-year-old sustained a minor cut to his cheek. He managed to flee the residence and call police.
A second male resident, a 52-year-old man was then threatened by the man, and during an alleged struggle he sustained three puncture wounds to his leg and a cut under his chin.
Police arrived and the man fled the residence only to be confronted by officers in the backyard. He allegedly threatened police and tried to jump a back fence during which time a taser was successfully deployed and the man taken into custody.

Armed robbery charges, Condon

Police have charged a man following an armed robbery that occurred in Condon yesterday afternoon.
Shortly after 2pm, a man entered a bottle shop in Riverway Drive and it will be alleged that he walked behind the counter and stated that he was armed with a knife.
It is further alleged that the man then took two bottles of alcohol before fleeing the scene on foot/
A man was taken into custody by police a short time later.
A 20-year-old Kirwan man has been charged with one count of armed robbery and is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on June 25.

Traffic crash, Lake Eacham

Police are investigating a serious traffic crash that occurred at Lake Eacham yesterday evening.
At about 9.25pm, two vehicles collided on Lake Barrine Road.
The male driver of one of the vehicles sustained serious leg injuries and was airlifted to the Cairns Base Hospital for treatment.
Three other occupants received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are appealing to any members of the public who witnessed the crash or who have relevant dash-cam footage to contact police.

Major drug bust, Northgate

Police have charged two people with drug offences including trafficking, following the execution of a search warrant at Northgate yesterday.
At 9am, officers attended the Frederick Street address where it will be alleged they located approximately 20kg of cannabis and a large sum of cash.
Two people were arrested at the property and taken into custody soon after.
A 63-year-old Northgate woman and a 59-year-old Northgate man have been charged with one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs and receiving tainted property.
Both are expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning.

Serious traffic incident, Kippa Ring

Police are investigating a serious traffic incident in Kippa Ring which occurred late this morning.
Around 10.15am police were called to Edmund Street, following reports a skateboarder had been struck by a car.
The 39-year-old rider was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for treatment to serious head injuries.
