Police officer stood down Northern Region

A 29-year-old male constable from the Northern Region who was suspended from the Queensland Police Service has now been stood down from duty.
The officer is subject of an investigation in relation to use of excessive force on a suspect in custody. A charge of common assault preferred against the officer has now been finalised in the Cairns Magistrates Court resulting in a finding of not guilty. A disciplinary investigation is now being conducted in relation to the allegations to determine what, if any, further action is required.
In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when an officer faces serious allegations of misconduct. This does not mean that the allegations against the officer have been substantiated.
