Sexual Assaults, Gold Coast

Gold Coast detectives will tomorrow apply for the extradition of a 22-year-old man, who was arrested at Tweed Heads today by virtue of a Queensland arrest warrant, following the alleged sexual assaults of two women on the southern Gold Coast this month.
It will be alleged around 8am on December 10, a 26-year-old woman was walking along the footpath on Pacific Parade, Bilinga, when she was sexually assaulted by a man not known to her.
The woman screamed, prompting the man to run away along Mills Street.
It will be further alleged around 7.00am on December 17, a 27-year-old woman was walking her dog towards her vehicle parked on Miles Street, Kirra, when she was sexually assaulted by a man who was not known to her.
The victim managed to push the man off, before he fled along Musgrave Street.

UPDATE: Emergency declaration, Peregian Springs REVOKED

The emergency declaration for Perigian Springs has been revoked. However the Sunshine Motorway from Emu Mountain Road and Walter Hay Drive to Perigian Springs turnoff with Murdering Creek Road remains closed due to smoke hazard.
Earlier:
Police have made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act due to a large bushfire burning at Peregian Springs (Sunshine Coast) which is currently threatening homes.
The declared zone encompasses Lakewood Drive to Lake Weyba, Sunshine Motorway south to Murdering Creek Road and back to Lake Weyba.
Residents within the declared zone are urged to follow the direction of emergency services and evacuate if required.
The Sunshine Motorway has been closed both directions at the Doonan roundabout.
Members of the public are advised to avoid the area.

Police issue warning following arrest in social media compromise

Detectives from the Financial and Cyber Crime Group, State Crime Command have today charged a 31 year-old Geebung man with six computer hacking and two extortion offences following a seven-month investigation.
Detectives conducted an investigation after receiving reports from victims, including three in Queensland, that the man was in possession of their unauthorised personal images. It will be alleged the man accessed their images through their social media accounts. An examination of a number of seized electronic devices identified there are over 350 potential victims nationwide who have had their personal images compromised.  It will further be alleged the images relate to young adult females with an active social media presence.
Police will allege the man approached victims online using a compromised known friend’s account on a social media messenger platform whilst pretending to be the friend and seeking assistance to restore and recover the friend’s lost account.  It will be alleged

Update 4: Homicide, Surfers Paradise

Police have charged four more teenage boys following a fatal stabbing in Surfers Paradise on December 13, 2019.
It is alleged the incident occurred around 8.10pm last Friday night on Surfers Paradise Boulevard, when two groups of people became involved in an altercation.
During the altercation, two 17-year-old boys from one group, were stabbed in the chest.
Both were transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital where a 17-year-old boy from Parkwood passed away.
A 17-year-old Pacific Pines boy received treatment for stab wounds to his chest and back and is still recovering in the Gold Coast University Hospital.
Police investigations have led detectives to charge a 17-year-old Kingston boy, a 16-year-old Upper Coomera boy and a 16-year-old Waterford boy with murder and acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm. They are due to appear in Beenleigh Childrens Court on December 18.

Weapons Seizure, Gold Coast

Yesterday officers from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad executed a search warrant at a Labrador residence, locating and seizing homemade weapons, methylamphetamine, MDMA, GHB, cannabis, prescription drugs and a small quantity of cash.
Police arrested a 47-year-old man for unlawfully possessing weapons, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing the proceeds of crime. A total of six persons were charged with 15 offences.
The man will re-appear in the Southport Magistrate Court on January 13.
“Homemade weapons pose a significant risk to both the community and to those involved in the manufacture, possession and use of such weapons. The seizure of unlawful weapons remains a key focus for the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad,” Detective Senior Sergeant Ian Galpin said.

Appeal for information, Rockhampton

Police are appealing for information to locate a 30-year-old Central Queensland man following an incident in Frenchville last week.
Detectives want to speak with Jermaine Auda in relation to an alleged verbal confrontation at Bloxsom Street around 4am on Friday, December 13.
Police allege he made threats towards a man and pointed a firearm at him.
No one was injured during the incident.
Anyone who sees the man pictured is urged not to approach him and call police.

House fire, Maryborough

Police have charged a woman over an alleged suspicious house fire in Maryborough overnight.
Emergency services were called to the Alice Street address around 630pm where the building was found well involved.
A 19-year-old Scarness woman has been charged with one count of arson, one count of enter a dwelling with intent and two counts of contravention of a domestic violence order.
She is due to face the Maryborough Magistrates Court today.
A crime scene has been established.

Fatal traffic crash, Cairns

Two people have died following a single vehicle traffic crash at Barron last night.
Around 9.30pm a sedan travelling along Lower Freshwater Road left the road and collided with a power pole and immediately caught fire.
The driver, an 18-year-old man and passenger, a 17-year-old girl both died at the scene.

Armed robbery attempt – Varsity Lakes

Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a convenience store at Varsity Lakes last night.
Around 11.50pm two males with their faces covered have entered the Christine Avenue store armed with a knife and a hammer.
The men have threatened the 62-year-old female employee while making demands for money.
The woman refused to hand over any money at which time the male armed with the hammer has smashed the front glass door from the inside and knocked over parts of a confectionary display.
The woman continued to refuse to hand over any money and the men fled the scene.
No items or money were stolen from the store.
The woman was not physically injured in the incident.

Arrests – Dangerous operation of stolen vehicle, Logan

Two men have been arrested after a stolen vehicle was located in Logan yesterday afternoon.
Around 5.30pm a stolen Ford utility was allegedly seen driving dangerously in a northbound direction of the M1 at Logan before it collided with another vehicle.
The stolen vehicle then entered the car park of the Logan Hyperdome where a male passenger was dropped off. The stolen vehicle attempted to leave the car park where it then collided with another vehicle before crashing into a gutter. The male driver attempted to flee on foot however was apprehended by police.
Police searched a toilet inside the shopping centre where the passenger had been seen to enter and located a firearm. The man was later located at a Loganholme address.
A 27-year-old Kingston man was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
A 30-year-old Tanah Merah man was arrested and charged
