Commissioner’s Gift Drive spreads the spirit of Christmas

Yesterday, Commissioner Katarina Carroll joined Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services the Honourable Mark Ryan MP for the annual Commissioner’s Christmas Gift Drive presentation.
This year, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) donated more than 2,000 gifts to the Department of Child Safety for children in their care.

A number of children attended the ceremony at Police Headquarters and were personally gifted presents from Commissioner Carroll and Santa Claus.
Also joining in the celebrations today were the QPS Melody in Blue band and police puppies.

The Commissioner’s Christmas Gift Drive is celebrating its 27th year, where QPS members and other individuals and agencies generously donate age-appropriate Christmas gifts for children in care to ensure they feel special and cherished during the holiday season.

Fatal crash, Blackwater

Police are investigating a fatal car crash in Blackwater overnight.
Preliminary investigations indicate, around 11.15pm, a car was involved in a single vehicle crash on Columba Access Road.
There were two people in the car. A 17-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old girl was transported to Blackwater Hospital and then to Rockhampton Hospital by helicopter.
The car was allegedly stolen earlier in the evening from the car park of a hotel on Railway Street.
Forensic Crash Unit is investigating. Anyone in the area with dashcam footage is urged to contact police.

Update 1: Man charged with murder, Raceview

Detectives from the Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch and the Homicide Investigation Group this evening charged a 36-year-old man with murder following the discovery of a woman’s body at Raceview on December 10.
The Raceview man is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court tomorrow morning charged with one count of murder, one count of unlawful assault of pregnant female and one count of misconduct with a corpse.
Media release issued December 11:
Ipswich detectives, with the assistance of the Homicide Investigation Group, are investing after the body of woman was located at a Raceview property yesterday afternoon.
Police attended a McGill Street address around 5.20pm on December 10 where the body of a 31-year-old Raceview woman was located in a vehicle.
A crime scene has been established as police investigations continue.
A 36-year-old Raceview man was arrested late last night at the address and is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

Fatal motorcycle crash, Northgate

Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash in Northgate yesterday afternoon (December 11).
Preliminary information indicates that at around 4.50pm police attempted to intercept a motorcycle on Peary Road. The motorcycle failed to stop and sped off.
The motorcycle was not pursued.
A short time later the police vehicle located a two-vehicle crash involving the motorcycle and a 4WD at the intersection of Peary Road and Northgate Road.
The motorcycle rider, a 35-year-old Wakerley man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver and sole occupant of the 4WD, a 60-year-old woman from Wavell Heights was not injured.
The Forensic Crash Unit and Ethical Standards Command are investigating with police appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or motorists with relevant dashcam vision to contact them (details below).

Update: Dangerous operation, Townsville

Police have charged a man and a woman after a bus was allegedly stolen and driven dangerously through Townsville last night.
The bus was allegedly stolen from a property on Woodstock-Giru Road, south of Townsville, sometime after 5pm.
The bus was allegedly driven erratically along the Bruce Highway around 8pm before it was intercepted at a shopping centre on MacArthur Drive at Annandale a short time later.
A man and woman, the only occupants of the bus, refused to exit the bus and while forcing entry, a police officer was injured.
A 27-year-old Cairns man has been charged with a total of nine offences, including enter premises with intent to commit an offence, unlawful use and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evading police, serious assault of a police officer, driving under the influence and while disqualified.

Fatal traffic crash, Mount Surprise

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal traffic crash at Mount Surprise in Far North Queensland this morning.
Initial investigations indicate a utility was travelling west along Gulf Development Road at The Junction when the driver lost control and overturned into a ditch in the early hours.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 22-year-old man from Mount Surprise, was located deceased at the scene around 3:45am.
Investigators from the Forensic Crash Unit are appealing for anyone who saw the Toyota Landcruiser on Gulf Development Road to come forward.

Death investigation, Townsville

Townsville police are investigating following the death of a 36-year-old woman this morning (Thursday, December 12).
Police were called to an accommodation residence on McIlwraith Street, South Townsville around 4.15am after the woman was located with injuries, inside one of the rooms.
The Cosgrove woman, who sometimes stayed at this residence, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives from Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating, and a crime scene has been declared with specialised police including Scenes of Crime and Scientific officers at the residence.
A post mortem will be conducted to help determine the cause of death.
It is unknown at this time if the death is suspicious with police appealing for anyone with information which could assist with the investigation to contact them.

Dangerous operation, Townsville

Two people have been arrested following the alleged dangerous operation of a bus in Townsville last night.
Around 8pm, police received reports of a bus was driving erratically on the Bruce Highway at Alligator Creek.
Police intercept the bus at a shopping centre on MacArthur Drive, Annandale using stingers. When the bus came to a stop, it damaged a police car and two officers were injured.
It will be alleged the bus had been stolen from Woodstock-Giru Road south of Townsville.
A man and woman were arrested at the scene and are assisting police with their investigation.

Armed robbery, Ashmore

Police are investigating the armed robbery of a jewellery store in Ashmore this afternoon.
Around 3pm, three men in a blue Holden Commodore stopped in front of the Cotlew Street business.
Two masked men, armed with guns and a hammer exited the vehicle.
One man entered the store and made demands for jewellery, while the second man held people outside at gunpoint.
The first man smashed display cabinets, before striking the female attendant in the face with his gun. She suffered minor facial injuries.
The men fled in the Commodore, which was located abandoned nearby.
The three men remain outstanding and anyone who may see them is urged not to approach them.

Fatal crash, Clear Island Waters

Police are investigating after a fatal traffic crash on the Gold Coast this afternoon.
Around 3pm a car has left Santa Cruz Boulevard in Clear Island Waters and crashed into a fence.
Despite Emergency services carrying out CPR on the 84-year-old male driver, he was declared deceased at the scene.
Police are investigating whether a medical condition may have contributed to the crash.
